WE have now copped it
Well we have caught up with the rest of Aus. The night before last I woke up thinking that a passenger jet was about to land on our roof, couldn't hear myself think, when I went to the window all I could see was a waterfall coming off the roof, about a foot of water on the lawn, it's just as well we are on a hill.
On the news it showed that a bore had come down our little creek, a storm water drain really, Cooma had flooded, the first time in 70 years
although the main street is on a slight hill shops were inundated. And to think that one town Maitland up North it is their third huge flood in twelve months..

Re: WE have now copped it
No way to pass it on to Victoria then Des ? Think John in Oz might appreciate it ? Are your houses built on a slab or do you have the original foundation type ? In 1992 had only been out here less than a year and was in a rented house with a sloping Street. Was home on leave from up North , the first night home it had been raining heavy and in bed at about 2 in the morning there was a hammering on the front door . On answering there was this distraught bloke shouting Quick Quick phone the SAS my mother’s caught in the garage . I closed the door and went back to bed , the wife said who was that . I said some drunk wanting the SAS , and went back to sleep Next morning I found out what he wanted was the SES so suspect he may of been a kiwi. His mother was ok , but don’t think he ever spoke to me again . Anyhow bought my own house shortly after that so had no contact with, he should of tarked propa and not panicked . Cheers JS.

Re: WE have now copped it
John, I thank you for your kind offer but we has enough already.
But the Murray is beginning to drop at last.
Not hears about floods in Cooma, must have dropped off the radar here.
But good news, according to the weather men, who do get it right sometimes, this La Nina effect will die out at the end of November.
I do hope they mean this November!!

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: WE have now copped it
The frightening thing about this flood is that what they call Cooma Creek is just a big drain about three feet wide and maybe two feet deep.
My daughter sent me this picture she took just before the water went over the bridge, the only way we could have got into Cooma.

John.
We have the usual concrete surround and blocks in the middle, but built in the 50s so very solid, the timber came from Norway and is some hardwood, so hard that an electrician burnt out a big drill trying to get through a stud, can't bang a nail in.

Re: WE have now copped it
Down here in Victoria we are getting very mixed messages about the weather and the effect of the floods.
Reports of waters going down from the media and then locals saying not true!!
Reports of damage to crops to the value of some $5 billion, but that includes the earlier floods in Queensland and NSW back in August and earlier.
Told cereal prices will rise but most crops were in before the floods as was the case with canola.
But the media do love to paint a doom and gloom picture.
Yes there has been damage but not all at the one time.

Re: WE have now copped it
Latest from the weather men.
They anticipate the return of El Nino next year, that could mean drought and severe heat.
Bit of a change from this lot!!!

Re: WE have now copped it
Well Today we had the coldest day here in some 50 odd Yeras , November madness!
Woke up to Howling Winds, Freezing conditions and Late last Night Hail.
The Temp here showed it at 3 degrees but on the Gauge also showed the Fee Like Temp. which showed at Feels like -9.6 degrees, and that is exactly what it felt like .
I had to take her Indoors to the station earlt Hours and Boy! were we freezing!
The entire day here has not gone above the 5 mark, with winds keeping it ata Feel Like warmest at -4.5 degrees!
Have had the Gas Heater going all day Today, first time i can remember using the Heater all day!
And what about all the Snow at this time of the Year! Heavy falls in many places besides the Snowy Mountains Ski Resorts , also falls here on the Central Tablelands which is around us here! Oberon, Bathurst etc really covered!
This Weather is absolutely crazy!!! And some say there is no climate change! Better think again!
Ok John in Oz! Here we go. LOL
