It did occur to try claiming for my COPD, but I don't think it would wash. I was on tankers for about 10 years, and a smoker for about 45, and occasionally still have a ciggie. I'm also a recovering alcoholic, I don't suppose I could blame that on all the duty frees I drank while on the tankers.....................Could I?.............

You know the old saying " Faint heart never fcuked a pig". It costs you nothing to try. All they can do is say no! Of course you have forgotten your alcoholism was caused by the tankers as well, a stress problem. That's you got two work related problems already, think positive!!! If they say they cannot get you into fitness forwork you need to start to think along those lines.

It wouldn't work, even if I felt inclined to try. I packed up Deep Sea 33 years ago and there's an aweful lot of water under the bridge since then. I'm not into litigation, unless I thought I had a valid case, which I really don't have.
The first thing I found when I joined my first ship, the Queen Mary, was my cabin, the second thing I found was the crew bar.

    Hi Richard,

I think the first thing your lungs may have found when you joined your first ship was the air pollution due to the materials of build.
Thirty odd years later out comes the COPD. It is the classic case for persons who sailed on that ship. It was full of dangerous materials.

    regards
    jimmy
