Re: Sea temperature
Joe Biden is a smart political operator who sees the big picture and acts on it. Judge him not by his mumbled words or trip ups but by the massive legislative packages he has managed to navigate through the American political system. Making America independent of foreighn energy is something that should have started back in 74 but at least it is happening now. We live in a world where pople are distracted from what is important to what is trivial by irrisponsible trash media who say 'don't look at the important stuff look at how he tripped over that sand bag' superficial manipulative media that treats people as if they are morons. Don't fall for it.

As to sea temps and the 'story' of rising sea levels.
Yes records may go back but when I hear the French say we have records that go back as far as 1950 I just wonder.
As to sea levels, we regularly go to the coast and despite comments by one member who does not think it possible, water levels are no different to when I first saw them in 1964.
Problem for most is the media, their mains source of info, much of which is based not on fact but on selling copy.
Look back at genuine records and see that much of what happens now has done so before.,

Re: Sea temperature
Bit on our news today.
The met office is to reclassify how El Nino and La Nina are recognized in order to fit in with Climate Change policy.???
WE had one so called Climate 'Expert' who claims that by 2050 all Co2 and Methane will be removed from the atmosphere.
No explanation of how, just a very broad statement.
That is often the problem with such statements, very little substance in them.
Nothing wrong in protecting the environment, but at the same time the article said to protect us such as solar farms and wind turbines do just as much damage to the environment as so called fossil fuels.
Land degradation under solar farms is now being detected, trees being cut down to allow space for wind turbines.
It does not pass the pub test.

Re: Sea temperature
I used to drive often through Spain to France a lot of central Spain is more or less desert, that land has massive solar panel farms as far as the eye can see . same thing with wind farms.
Did Scotland axe 14 million trees to make way for wind farms?
A US news website with ties to the oil and gas industry has selectively plucked information from a years-old news article about Scotland's efforts to tackle climate change, driving a fresh wave of misinformation about renewable energy.
In recent days, hundreds of social media posts have alleged that 14 million trees were chopped down in Scotland to make way for wind farms.
"Environmental madness", one widely shared tweet reads. "Scotland launched a number of wind turbine projects in an obsessive quest to cash in on renewables.
"The real tragedy is the destruction of 14 million trees, the mind-numbing hypocrisy of climate zealots, a hoax created by the UN."
Other posts, meanwhile, suggest the 14 million trees had been cut down "since 2020".
But that's not the full story.
According to the government agency Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS), 14 million trees were cut down to make way for wind farms in Scotland, but this had occurred over 20 years.
Meanwhile, over the same period (from 2000), 272 million trees were planted across the country.
That crucial fact is missing from an article published this week by the website Energy News Beat, which appears to have driven the recent surge in social media activity.
Notably, the omission comes despite the article drawing heavily on a two-year-old story published by Scottish news site The Herald, in which an FLS spokesman was quoted as saying: "That figure for felled trees should also be contrasted with that for the number of trees planted in Scotland over the years 2000 - 2019, a total of 272,000,000, and renewable energy developments fit well with this."
He added: "The amount of woodland removed across Scotland's national forests and land, managed by FLS, for wind farm development is not even 1 per cent of the total woodland area", while the 14 million trees were a commercial crop that would ultimately have been felled for timber.
In an email to CheckMate, an FLS spokesman also explained that the 272 million trees planted did not include restock planting on commercial sites. In addition, the Scottish government requires that developers that fell trees to make way for wind farms must carry out compensatory planting elsewhere.
"On average, FLS will plant 25 million trees every year as restock planting of commercial crops," he said.
Notably, the Energy News Beat story was copied verbatim from the website CFACT.org, which belongs to the Committee For A Constructive Tomorrow, a US-based organisation that rejects the scientific consensus on climate change.
The executive publisher of Energy News Beat, Stuart Turley, is also the president and CEO of Sandstone Group, which describes itself as an energy data and finance consultancy "working with companies all throughout the energy value chain".
According to LinkedIn, both he and the company's former managing director (who co-hosts Energy News Beat's podcast) work for the King Operating Corporation, a "privately held Texas oil and gas company".
So as usual half a story , yes 14 million trees went over a 20 year period, over the same period 272 million trees were planted.

Re: Sea temperature
It is for the very reasons you state that I do not believe in the cult of climate change or so called global warming.
The truth is out there but not given to us as mere mortals.
There is a serious background to all of this and it involves one thing, a small round coin by the name of the DOLLAR!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Sea temperature
I certainly believe in global warming, but it is a natural event. It's caused by over population, and exploitation of that huge number of people.
Up until a hundred years ago, nature would have taken charge, and sorted it by itself, but we got a bit clever (well some did) and created ways of beating nature. There's loadsamoney to be made in beating nature, and the fatcats are getting pretty good at it. I suppose it all starts off with good intentions, but usually ends up going the other way. If a natural pestilence is not forthcoming, then we'll create one, in order to make even more dosh, and of course save that huge population (for later) they'll always come in handy sometime in the future.
I have noticed that air travel is still OK to spend our money on, and nobody is doing anything to curb it. Maybe all those huge jets flying over my house every day, going into and out of all those London airports are not contributing to poisoning the world? Or maybe there's still loadsamoney to be made?

Re: Sea temperature
Johnny, unfair to blame the airlines just look at EasyJet & Ryanair thousands have turned up at the airports just to find there flight has been cancelled an hour after it WAS due to take off.
John the truth is out there but not available to us mere mortals.
Well this mere mortal who believes in Global warming and climate change.
My reasoning is it is the effect of human activity that is causing the planet to warm up and generate climate change.
More people than ever before on the planet.
Methane is a powerful heat-trapping gas. The amount of methane in the atmosphere is increasing due to human activities.
CO2 we need but it is a balancing act to little will affect crops to much will increase the earths temperature.
I blame the vegans, eat more meat less cows to fart simple really.
Or, reduce the numbers on the planet, war is one way, or get the Chinese to produce a new stronger COVID type Virus. The money men would still make money in the race to develope a new vaccine.
I only mention the Chinese and the virus because the then President of the US said it was all their fault

Re: Sea temperature
James we are all entitled to our opinion, just that yours and mine differ, nothing wrong in that.
Yes population of 8 billion may be too many, but consider at the time of the Spanish flu in 1918 there were about 2 billion, by 1980 4 billion.
So exponential growth in that area.
But I fail to see how renewables on their own will change things much, read a report that the blades on wind turbines have to be changed about every two years due to edge wear.
They are then dumped as it appears there is little in the way of Recyling them.
Similar with solar panels, can be recycled but a costly business.
One report says that for the world to be zero by 2040 will require some 26 million tonnes of copper, currently we extract about two.
UK has in my opinion taken the correct road, take it easy and steady, not rush in with no infrastructure to support it.
