Re: Sea temperature
Old Dr. Penfolds 70 years ago used to be the cheap stuff cheaper than beer, today millionaires drink it , always knew you had money Des .Cheers JS
PS my first acquaintance with the good Doctor was when at 16 I used to be sent to one of the pubs on the then so called Barbary Coast in Cairns FNQ ,armed with 2 Demi johns one to fill up with beer and the other with plonk. The cheaper one to fill up was the plonk. A long time before the usual stay of about 3 weeks there the beer jar was discarded due to lack of funds. Today loading 10,000 tons of sugar would take about 6 hours due to the bulk loader they now have , previously every bag had to be slit open and hand emptied down the hatch. JS
First time in Cairns would of been October 1953 they had plenty of rain even in those days so the rains of today are nothing exceptional I remember very well , because every time it rained we had to put beams back in and hatches on and spread the tarpaulins .JS

Re: Sea temperature
As a 10 year old living in London my mate and I uses to go to the bottle shop and for 2/6 buy a bottle of Penfolds Port.
We kept in in the garden shed and had an egg cup full every day after school.
We did that for about 2 years and never got caught,
Now a bottle of Penfolds Grange can fetch $20,000.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Would that be hot pot cooked in Aussie red or drinking it with your hot pot, suggest you try both at once.

Personal tastes , but Sauterne is to sweet. Prefer Sancerre or Pinot Grigio.
I only eat Oysters raw , why would you want to ruin the taste of the sea by smoking or frying Oysters. Squeeze of lemon or shallots &red wine vinigar. also great with a splash of Tabasco.

Re: Sea temperature
That’s probably because of the tax they put on it John. Remember when smoking was on its way out and the government were upping the price to assist its removal and every government packet had written on it “ smoking can damage your health” ? Well they’re doing the same with gambling , every tv advert has a government warning on the advert “ you are more likely to Lose “ . Soon everyone will be an ex alky , non smoking Puritan and the taxes on earnings will have to go up to pay for the shortfall. Cheers have you got a light ? JS

John, tourist rate this morning is Aus $1.87 - £1. works out at £5.88, normally Banrock label would b much more here. I got three bottles of Chilean Shiraz on Friday for £10, decent drop, not bad at all.
