Old Dr. Penfolds 70 years ago used to be the cheap stuff cheaper than beer, today millionaires drink it , always knew you had money Des .Cheers JS
PS my first acquaintance with the good Doctor was when at 16 I used to be sent to one of the pubs on the then so called Barbary Coast in Cairns FNQ ,armed with 2 Demi johns one to fill up with beer and the other with plonk. The cheaper one to fill up was the plonk. A long time before the usual stay of about 3 weeks there the beer jar was discarded due to lack of funds. Today loading 10,000 tons of sugar would take about 6 hours due to the bulk loader they now have , previously every bag had to be slit open and hand emptied down the hatch. JS
First time in Cairns would of been October 1953 they had plenty of rain even in those days so the rains of today are nothing exceptional I remember very well , because every time it rained we had to put beams back in and hatches on and spread the tarpaulins .JS
