Re: Sea temperature
#69 For those who don’t know…The effect of the Earths movements is the cycle of day and night, but its tilt and position also account for day length and seasons.
The Seasons..Earths axis of rotation tilts at about 23 degrees from the vertical. This means that during the Northern summer ( Southern winter) the northern hemisphere is tilted towards the Sun and the southern hemisphere away from it. This is enough to account for the temperature differences we see between summer and winter.
Day and Night ..The earth rotates on its axis once every 24 hours roughly as it orbits the Sun. Because it tilts as it orbits . Days and nights are unequal in length, except at Spring and Autumn equinoxes . These are the 2 days each year when the Earths Axis passes through the upright position and neither the North or Southern Hemisphere are inclined towards the Sun . On these days night and day are equal all over the world.
Solstices. These are the longest and shortest days of the year. The Summer Solstice is on June 21 andWinter SolsticeDec 21,
Vernal Equinox March 21 and the Autumnal Equinox Sept. 22.
Distance from Earth which changes continually during its annual cycle is noted as
92,970,000 miles . Time for sunlight to reach Earth 8.3. Minutes.
On the other hand the moon is only on average 238, 828 miles , anyone who has been at sea longer than 3 years could do that standing on their head, Cheers JS

Re: Sea temperature
I can still visualise today 60 years ago on the bridge of a ship in the middle of a painted ocean coming up to dusk both wheelhouse doors open , and galloping from wing to wing , repeating to oneself … twinkle twinkle little star, how I wonder where you are , Behind the Awning spar ? , come out you basket. As can imagine hundreds of others did before science overtook us. JS

Re: Sea temperature
A weather man in USA was in the news yesterday.
Many were complaining about the floods at a place of some celebration.
He explained to the news reporter the reason.
Hot weather as has been seasonal in many parts of the globe causes moisture, through evaporation, on earth to rise into the atmosphere.
It reaches a point where it cannot hold it any longer, it then dumps it somewhere on earth.
Not sue buy the look on his face if the reported fully understood what is a very simple but factual event.

Re: Sea temperature
If he had just gone that little bit further and explained dew point that would have caused real consternation John , the first question would have been how do you spell it ? JS

I think they are queuing up for the Spurs game. Spurs are well supported by members from the Jewish religion. In some sections of the ground they call themselves the IDY Army, think about it.
