Back in the 50’s I heard dad brought a monkey back to

Re: Monkey
Robert.
Back in the days, ships used to be full of monkeys LoL But seriously blokes used to buy or pick up a monkey and bring it back, but don't ask what happened when a bloke came in the door and his wife asked what did you bring me dear, as sometimes he brought back things she wouldn't like.

Re: Monkey
I brought a little woolly monkey back from Brazil once, but an older AB also brought back a big kind of parrot looking bird. We had to keep them in the recreation messroom at night in case they made a mess. My monkey constantly kept playing with himself, and older bloke used to warn me that my mum won't like that little w***er sitting on the back of the settee doing that all the time.
Anyway, one morning, the blokes parrot was found dead, and because my monkeys chain was long enough for him to reach it, it was presumed that he was guilty of strangling the parrot.
Several older blokes suggested he went over the side due to him being a bad monkey. They told me he would reach the Canary Islands which were just over the horizon, so I reluctantly agreed, as long as they thought he had a chance.
Over he went, and the last I saw of him was his head bobbing in the wake.
I think it was the right thing, because he was a dirty little pervert, always poking the links of his chain, or a hole in a piece of timber.
It was all my fault for buying him, and I still feel guilty about it.

Re: Monkey
John, that story is actually true. It occured during the Napoleonic wars between the U.K. and France in Hartlepool. A monkey dressed in a sailors suit was found from a French Ship that had sunk,it was discovered by some local folk. Apparantly they thought it was a spy and decided on a vigilante approach to the poor animal and hung it. A few years ago a local character fed up with His local councilors decided as a protest to stand for the vacant position of mayor. He campaigned wearing a monkey suit and under the name (H)Angus and was duly elected. The last I heard of His caper was that a year or two later he was re-elected.
