Re: New Royal Yacht
I see the planet savers are at in in that little southern town of London.
The mayor wants to build a new tunnel to replace the Blackwall one which is well past it's use by date.
But the savers say no, do not do it as it will only contribute to global warming, cars will use it and we do not want them, we want public transport.
Sad thing is most of this lot put him into office and now look like seeing him out of it.

Out, the sooner the better, Mr Khan wants greater London to be independent from England and rejoin the EU, you couldn't make it up.......The capital of England to be separate from England.........would cause havoc with the train time tables............border checks everyday in and out, the list is endless

Re: New Royal Yacht
The air quality in London apparently is so bad it is effecting the health of a lot of the population. A 9 year old girl died in 2013? from severe asthma attacks. She lived near a main road. The last time I was in London was about 3 years ago and riding my motorbike. I actually came through the Blackwall tunnel during rush hour(bad timing on my part) by the time I exited the tunnel my head was spinning the air quality was that bad and it was not great either while I made my way out of the city.
Perfectly understandable why London would want to become an independent state, they are the ones who make all the money that keeps the rest of the UK going , especially them up north lol.
Has anyone ever watch the old Ealing movie Passport to Pimlico. Passport_to_Pimlico_film.jpg

But of course he is one of those of the 'other' faith I believe.
He is only looking out for his own position, does he really think London can be separated from UK??
But he can of course dream.
But as to air quality, we were last there in June/July 2017 and found the air quality very good.
Went down on the river boats to Greenwhich twice and the river was looking very good.
I can still remember the very last real smog in London way back in about 1959, it made the gov of the day take action regarding coal powered power stations.
At that time the cola was dug out, into trucks and straight into the fire.
Problem was there was dust and all manner of other crap which was causing much of the problem.
From then on cola was washed and burned at a higher temp by forcing air into the fires, the smog vanished.

Re: New Royal Yacht
John, just because you cannot see pollution does not mean it is not there. I remember running from the Arabian Gulf down the East coast of Africa on the way to Louisiana in the States. It was a shuttle service more or less a constant fleet ULCC & VLCC tankers, some pretty old tonnage as well. The bridge did not really need charts all they needed to do was follow the yellow smog being created by the ship that was probably 12 hours ahead of you.
One of the reasons the Thames may have looked better is because most of the industry that may have been a polluter have all but gone.
Air quality in most of the worlds cities is poor.

Re: New Royal Yacht
Air quality, all depends on the city.
Bancock you cannot see for more than a few meters, St. Petersburg clear as a bell.
Here in Melbourne it depends on the day.
Yesterday clear as, today a haze. We had a rather warm day with a cooler night causing an inversion layer.
But if the Thames looks cleaner and clearer then obviously some of the practices put in place are working.

Re: New Royal Yacht
Passed the time of day with Britannia when she was taking on British personnel evacuating Aden. Could hear gunfire over the VHF. So she certainly did more than just swan around with royalty aboard. We were on passage Jebel Ali to Jeddah.
