Log Books and Crew Agreements 1951 to 1976
A 10% sample of all logbooks from the above period are held at the National Archives in Kew, in classification BT 99 Agreements and Crew Lists, Series 11. 80% of the records are now held at the Maritime History Archive, Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, A1C 5S7. The remaining 10% of these logbooks and crew agreements are kept at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, London, SE10 9NF. This last address keeps the years ending in "5", i.e. 1955, 1965, 1975.
Unfortunately there are no surviving Log Books or Crew Agreements for the Manchester Port in BT99 for the 1950's nor any records in Canada. The only possibility is if he was on her in 1955 and they are at Greenwich.

Hello Robert
Just reading this with some interest
As far as I am aware (
I was in the Legion as many know) no Legionairs were recruited from any ports around there
My thinking is that whatever ship he jumped in Algeria he would either have got another old tramperback to France and then joined at Fort de Vencennis from there he would have had to do minimum eight weeks training then sent to Algeria by Ship possibly to the main camp in Sidi Bel Abbis then on to more distant camps within the Sahara Regions

I've been away recently and have not looked at the site.
Going through dad's discharge books he has one voyage not completed
MV Alderney coast 28 july 1964..Victoria dock..

Al i see is the person in uniform on deck looks like it is RN. I see no Crest??
