Sidney Griffiths 1908.
Looking for any information on the M.N. career of Sidney Griffiths Born 1908 Bedwellty Monmouthshire, also lived in Swansea Wales.
Served as a Bosun aboard the M.S.Highland Prince in 1946/47 and the Kingsborough in 1933. I Believe this man to be the Brother of my late father William Austin Griffiths who also served in M.N. on many ships including on the convoys in the 39/45 war.
Any help would most appreciated.
Regards,
Ray Griffiths.

Hello Ray,
I am don't know how sure you are of this man but I can tell you that the bosun that served aboard HIGHLAND PRINCE and KINGSBOROUGH was born in Burryport Wales various dates of birth are on his cards but a change of date of birth to 1905 was registered with the Board of Trade 1 October 1945. Anyway please see the detail about this man below. If you are sure it was Bedwelty then it may be another seaman you seek.
.................................................. ................................
Sydney John Griffiths b. 16.7.1905 – Discharge Number, 1117205.
CRS 10 – service record from Jan, 1941 – held at Kew in piece BT 382/698 - best viewed by visit to Kew or via a researcher.
He has cards held in the Fourth Register of Seamen 1918- 1941 which I have transcribed for your below. There are not always 100% accurate with some voyages and ships possibly missing. Some of his records give different years of birth 1906 especially but It looks like his dob was amended to 16.7.1905 as per one of his CR1 cards. If you would like copies of those cards can you send me your email address by private message please and I will pass them on.

Re: Sidney Griffiths 1908.
I have noticed on many an occasion Hugh comes up with the goods, says very little about what he is doing, just does it,
Best way to go, he obviously has a good source of info and puts it to good use.
Thanks Hugh, you are a diamond mate.

Happy daze John in Oz.
