Re: Bibby Line vessel on fire, crew evacuated
Bibby Line have kept a token interest in UK shipping during the last several years. They ran a coaster of about 3,000m/t which was operated by a Newcastle company, Gillie & Blair. I think this supramax ship is merely an asset play.

Bibby are specialising in the likes of the above also they are involved in Jack up rigs etc , gone are the gas tankers etc but they still have a manning department based on the IOM, I believe they still sponsor a few British cadets and assist them in finding employment when they complete there training. I enjoyed my time with Bibby , hard working ships but mostly good crowds to work with and the Sir Derek Bibby was a very approachable man, a business man yes but he also had a very carig side to him.

Michael Bibby & is it his sister? Peter Bibby runs his own companies. There was an article about Peter in the May edition of Wirral Life,, he has nothing to do with the Bibby line group.

Re: Bibby Line vessel on fire, crew evacuated
It is always of interest to me when I hear of any Old U.K. family shipping companies that are still involved in the industry. Whether that be offshore, coasting or deep sea. It is interesting to see that the company are running things from the I.O.M. Are the crew who manned her 'British' or the usual F.O.C. mix of Asians/East Europeans ?

Re: Bibby Line vessel on fire, crew evacuated
From a manning point of few I think it is a league of nations, I was offered a job a few years ago and when they told me the going rate I burst out laughing and declined. The group head quarters are in Liverpool in 105 Duke Street, Liverpool L1 5JQ, If memory serves me right the building they are in used to be a library and I think it was the first lending library in Liverpool.
They may not be a force in shipping anymore but a company that is going from strength to strength.
They are holding an old boys reunion in Liverpool in November. There have been posts on this forum with information and dates.
