Seaforth Docks.
Here is a view of the new dock on the Mersey,Liverpool2 as it is known. The three silos in the centre of the picture are where the pellets for the Drax power station are discharged, they say four trains a day leave here for Yorkshire.

Re: Seaforth Docks.
Looking at the photo Jim, its about 55 years that i was last in Liverpool, obviously tremendous amount of change in that time, maybe one day will take a trip down memory lane, and visit all the old places , after all that time at least i would not have to be in disguise !!, kt

Re: Seaforth Docks.
Cappy the container base is across the road from the top of my avenue but you wouldn't know it they have planted many trees there,I suppose in one respect it's far better than having a housing estate there. When I go for my paper in the morning I can see the ships in the dock and apart from hearing the odd container giving a bang I would say it's very quite. As I have said before when I bought this house the base was a big field leading onto the beach great for the kids.

Nice photo and good to see the end of those huge piles of scrap metal that used to cover the area. Is coal still brought into that dock with the two cranes opposite the new berth for the Bio fuel pellets?
That biomass trade is certainly growing, the Port of Tyne is expanding its capacity building three new huge storage tanks in addition to the existing capacity for biomass import's.
Just looking at the new riverside container berths, the storage area behind the cranes does not look all that big, is there plans to create greater storage area by filling in some of the docks?

Re: Seaforth Docks.
As you say John not much space to stack containers on the new berth I haven't heard of any docks being filled in,there is room further along so maybe stack them there. That is the coal berth to the right of the bio-mass berth it is all closed in now when coal started coming into Liverpool it was all in the open and stacked in the open right by a small housing estate they had old fire engines damping it down but people were still getting coal dust in their homes.I was having a pint in a pub by where the people were suffering the coal dust in their homes, they all had solicitors on the case,I was listening to one guy talking part of his claim was a pan of scouse ruined. He said he made a pan of scouse and when he came to eat it it was covered in coal dust.

Re: Seaforth Docks.
More than 30 years for me too. Everything looks much bigger even Walton Jail. Anfield is completely different with all the houses gone and Lime Street station is clean and modern. Great to see the old city rise from the ashes. The architects have done a fantastic job changing the city but keeping it's character.
