WW11 Merchant Navy
My dad was in the Merchant Navy during WW11. He was torpedoed three times. One of his stories was that the ship was hit and the crew were told to abandon ship. He tried to get back to his bunk because he'd left his watch there and luckily someone stopped him and threw him over board. Have tried to find his Merchant Navy WW11 records (for over five years) but not had any success so far. Have tried National Archives but nothing there. Does anyone have any ideas where else we can look.

Re: WW11 Merchant Navy
What records and file numbers did you check at The National Archives. What was his full name, date and place of birth.

Re: WW11 Merchant Navy
The problem is we don't know the names of any of the ships he sailed on, and we don't have his discharge book number. We have his medal card record (and his medals) , info from the 1960's but not the WW11 info.

Re: WW11 Merchant Navy
How did you get his medals ? What was his full name, date and place of birth ? We may be able to help, but need some basic information. Any information at all helps: As they say right now: We Know nothing. With your help, we could possibly help. K

Hopefully, the information at this link may get us started. Please confirm if this is you. Think just yes / no will suffice. Think reply will be yes. We do this in our spare time and do not charge etc but, it can be time consuming which would limit time we spend on other every day things. The more info and help an enquirer can give the better or we are starting at square one and virtually blindfolded. The basic info at the following link will help much and will look further when I haver a few minutes. Keith

Again, thanks Hugh. Know he is in good hands.
I learn by trying to help and stress if a few people do similar that is a lot of time, not complaining. Just if the basic information can be given early, much could be furthered rather than us both starting from square one and going over old ground etc. Certain much help can now follow and once again thanks Hugh.
