Saw her alongside. Didn't look much bigger overall - just like they'd moved the superstructure midships and piled the containers higher than normal...

In heavy fog I doubt the bridge would be able to see the bow on such ships.

Re: Photo tour of mega container ship
The best plush ships I have seen have been Norwegian, usually on an average sized vessel such as a seismic vessel, have a 3 piece suite and coffee table for entertaining customs and immigration. stuck in the corner of a well sized square Wheelhouse. The most sparse built ships as regards home comforts were the Americans, although the cabins were all called staterooms, they were all tin and steel, even the doors. Toilet blocks were stalls with half tin doors on and no place for a lady. Out of the various tonnages I have been on would say the Scandanavians had the best qualities in fitting out ships. #4.. John ref about seeing the focsle should imagine nowadays the OOW does his 4 hours with his head stuck in a Radar screen. I joined one American ship where they went to the expense of fitting out cameras like they now have in cars when backing up. Told them there was a difference between a ship and a car, would rather have a seaman down there letting me know distances by walkie talkie. Judging a distance on a screen from a camera covered in salt water spray was taking a big risk, especially with the ship gyrating all over the place. Cheers JS

John, even in the 50's on a standard tramp ship with bridge midships we at times couldn't see the foc'le in thick fog, so they would have no chance, wonder if they blow the whistle every two minutes whilst steaming at full speed, mind you their full speed was different to our 8 knots!

Ivan the signal these days that the really big vessels would imagine that they were the big cheeses, would like to blow would be 2 short and a long to warn others they were in for trouble if they mixed with the big boys. JS

Doubt there would be room to get to any rails or any other part to paint. But there may only be a few, maybe two or three on board. Some sail with very few crew now. as few as 8 on some I am told.
