    Default Donkey rides

Hi Alf. Yes mate they still have the donkey rides also a bouncy castle with slide ,but I'm not allowed on. They've also reintroduced the Stert Island swim which is around 3K to the island and back. Tide has to be right or they'll all finish up in a mud bath. Fairly small place and now and then the younger tough element seem to shove it in your face. Still mate got to live somewhere. Take Care Mike

Hi Geoff. Think your Aunt and Uncle must live in Worle which is just off the M/way and about 3 miles from the beach. Sometimes make my way there when I can't get out of Shopping. W.R. keeps a strangle hold on me at times. Keep the faith mate. Mike

    Default friendly places

hi frank, I remember it well.
I spent 10 months travelling either to botwood or quebec city on a france fenwick ship (dartwood) in the very early 60's.
remember a greenock guy called, or nicknamed pedro who got barred from the only pub in botwood for playing a connie francis record on the jukebox too many times.
the barman asked him to stop but he kept sticking his quarters in.
It is no joke being barred from the only pub in town, especially when all your mates are drinking there, and ,If I remember correctly we were docked there for ten days

    Hi Weegie Mate,
I used to write to a girl I met there.... If I remember correctly, near the dock, there was a large Diner or Cafe with a Duke Box where the Teenagers (Like myself gathered)..Quite a few Norwegien boats called in there.. Ah!.. Lovely memories
    Cheers Frank

    Smile Port Alice (4 Den)

    Den,
You say you live on the island, do you mean British Colombia, if so where,
I docked not only in Port Alice but Nanaimo, Port Alberni, Victoria, New Westminster & Vancouver all beautifull places.
While in Nanaimo an old chap came on board he was collecting any Britsh stamps the second told him I was a collector so I was able to help him in return he invited me to his home to meet his wife & family a really lovely evening.
He had another hobby wine making & the celler underneath his house was loaded with bottles of wine made from anything you could think of so we ended up taking a few bottles back on board.
Back to Port Alice I have found out that a complete new town was built a bit further round the coast, why I dont know.
There is a very nice Port Alice web site if you care to check it out if you do you will see a couple of messages in the Guest Book from me.
    best wishes,
    John Aspin (R685343) Ormesby-Middlesbrough.

Morning John. Courtenay [court-knee] one hour north of Nanaimo. Dont know about a new town. Port Alice is still Port Alice. We camp around that area, and it is still quite desolate. Matter of interest. Largest population of Cougars in Canada.
I have in the past, checked their site. Will do so again and read your comments. Fish Port Alberni offten.
    All the best.
    Den.
