Re: Cant remember this being done!!!!!!!!!!!!
[QUOTE=john sutton;188565]On the Accra some AB,s used to get boxes from the Las Palmas dolls and put them on top of the heating trunking with a note saying"ha,ha,got you that time.
I heard that customs pulled a large amount of cigs from behind the shell on a shell tanker[/Q
JOHN,Did you know it was not a cockle shell as most believed but that shell was in fact a Scallop. Re, Terry.

Re: Cant remember this being done!!!!!!!!!!!!
This one is not really to with naughties on the Ships LOL But is somewhat related!
Durban Docks 1968/9 working on the Stacker Trucks in the loading and offloading Sheds, goods from the Ships!
On night Shift most of the time,we used to nick cases of the best Beer and put it under the front of the Floor just beneath ones Legs,it fitted like a glove! Then it was jolly go happy all night long, every now and the stopping in a secluded place and gulpind down a Beer or two or three Lol
By the end of the Shift we could hardly drive home! Those were the good days when there was no Booze Breath checks ,and believe it hardly ever had any really bad accidents!
And also just before the end of each shift we used to have a great Race around the Cleared Shed, sozzled and doing all kinds of silly things! Those Stacker trucks were fun!
Cheers
Oh what we got up to in the Young and fearless days!

Re: Cant remember this being done!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re Funnel markings always wondered what seaforth maritime was nearest can explain like two U"s one inside the other or for those that know navigation like two first point of Libras inside each other. On asking was supposed to represent a globule of oil inside a globule of water. Could never see it myself. Another company with a name like Nomis was a while before realized it was simon backwards, wasn't simple either. On the clapped out heap was on in Japan, designed and implemented the funnel marking at the owners request, was his initials painted into one i.e. one letter was back to front. He was impressed when he saw it on his funnel, didn't stop the big disagreement with him later though. JS

#12, Terry, Unfortunately I cannot possibly divulge what I "ferried" back & forth in the grounds it may incriminate me but you would have been most proud. Hubby used to flip when he emptied the car! Never could relax completely till we had been waved through by approaching customs & excise. Always paid the vat in UK which at that time was around 15% but 33% at our
destination

Re: Cant remember this being done!!!!!!!!!!!!
Slightly of tack, But similar, Can remember very well after being in trouble after my second and last committee with the pool. I had been ashore for 6 weeks chewing grass absolutely skint. I had a court summons in Southport magistrates court for the 10th of November 1977 for pinching a bit of scrap metal from a demolition site £8 worth, A detective constable followed me into the scrap yard and off to the local nick and charged. Then the knock on the door the 5th of November, Taxi do you want to sail NOW!!!!!!!!!!! Everard boat M.V. Superiority take it or leave it. Obviously I sailed. After we sailed I must say the skipper was one of the best if not the best I sailed with. A few weeks after picking a cargo of quarry from Cork I went up to the bridge and explained all to the skipper. I shouldn't worry about that young man you have took up full time employment back at sea you done the right thing I shall inform the appropriate authority. Thanks Captain appreciated, 3 months later we were paying off port of Goole. I was packed and about to go down the gangway literally when the skipper appeared on the boat deck, And summoned me up to the bridge, Can you see those 2 sitting in that car just along the quay ? Yes skipper!!!!!!! They are Merseyside C.I.D. Police officers its your call but if you step off that gangway my guess is you will spend the night in a cell and taken to the local Magistrates court in the morning. However I don't sign your replacement until tomorrow or the next day if you want to spend the night aboard my ship with a square meal and your docking bottle as while you are aboard this ship and you promise me not to abscond, Which I know you won't, You are still under my jurisdiction and I need a night watchman. Which I will explain to those 2 officer's as they don't come aboard this ship unless I ok it. Absolute gem of a skipper. Needless to say as I walked ashore the next morning I was arrested took to Southport Magistrates, The Magistrate had nothing but praise for me for taking employment and fined me £5. To be paid by postal order 50 pence a week. Strange thing was my next ship was the M.V. Serenity another Everade boat. All the guy's up top on the bridge were aware of my little tale. A great skipper and gentleman Terry.
p.s Just remembered I was up top In the skippers office awaiting to sign off articles he told me to go onto the boat deck before signing off as he wanted a word which he did I was still on articles Terry.

Re: Cant remember this being done!!!!!!!!!!!!
#15 None there Ive sailed on Vern. Thinking about the funnel marking I invented and drew on funnel for the chinese crew to paint. Was there a chance there of getting a copywrite for myself, said tongue in cheek. Could of brought that up when they refused to pay me for breaking the contract. We always remember these things in hindsight, when its too late. Cheers JS
