I toured Virginia three years ago , and could not getthe taste for the Virginia breakfast , Waffles about 12" diameter with a thick coating of maple syrup . I used to search out the out of the way townships , and I had some fantastic Virgini hm , although the cure is very salty , topped with fresh eggs . In one tiny town just off off the Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway Road , lay the little town of Vesuvious , and there was a fabulous little country store / diner , called Gerty's Store . Gerty was not used to tourists , and did a great breakfast with great coffee . She asked here I was from , People here have not heard of Waterlooville , so I said Portsmouth , she gave a blank face , is it near London she asked , so I told her sixty miles , Oh , her daughter had a friend in London where she was working at the time , John Brown , did I know him , she asked . Well it was wrong really , and i have a warped humour , so I replied , Not Gay John is it , don't know him but have heard of him , paid the check and left . I wonder if she was ringing her daughter as I left , That John Brown is Gay .so if anyone knows a John Brown in London , whose American Girlfriend stopped talking to him after her mother rang , well tell him I'm sorry

It is amazing over there Rob. They think you know everyone in England. and one American lady said , `Where ya all from`, I said `England`, she says , `And where is that??.
. I was travelling from Kamloops in the Rockies in Canada to Vancouver, I stayed overnight in a tiny village out in the mountains, One bus a day to Vancouver,
I ws sat on a rock where the bus usually stops, a little old lady walked up to me and said. "Where are you from,?"
I said, `England`, she then says , "My nephew lives in England, do you know him?"
I said , "Whats his name" she says "Ian Hunter", I said , `I know him, he works for ESSO, ` "Thats right " she said , "He was over here last year, he had been on the clean up in Alaska and called on me after on the way home."

So I said "He is our ship Manager , know him well,"

That was an amazing meeting. In the middle of no where in the Canadian Rockies.
So sometimes when someone says "do you know someone in England" it can happen. ,
    Cheers
    Brian.

It all depends on what he means by Australian food. If he talking of the Golden Arches, or Fish and Chips, well then yes. But if he want real Oz food like whitchery grubs, or Goanna roasted in banana leaves, Roo on a spit, or dampoer and billy tea then no, it sure as hell 'aint the same.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Was working out of Sydney in 1998 on a survey vessel. Went up the road for a haircut one morning. Barber probably born out here says where you from, said just outside Fremantle. He says wheres that,? said near Perth, Oh he says have heard of perth. Even in Australia you get some of the natives isolationists. JS
