Re: New Polar Research Ship.
If Scotland separates then anywhere in the EU is more favourable to the government , that is why I wonder how political the announcement is

Of more importance, what will it be used for and why? Has anyone announced that yet?

Many ships of this construction now in service Doc, especially in the oil business. When we used to read Dan Dare in the 50's all the ships were this shape, the illustrators in these comics had a lot of foresight in design, look at the old comics look at modern day ships/cars/oilfields/aircraft/space stations they all seem to have evolved from these illustrators who are long since dead in most cases (I assume)

Re: New Polar Research Ship.
When it says has the capabilities of launching aerial and sub sea vehicles, assume it also fitted with a moonpool. The H Frame on the stern is now an antiqiated means of launch and recovering systems and assume is their for minor roles and emergencies. JS

Re: New Polar Research Ship.
Looks very similar to Ulstein of Norway standard design for supply boats.
