    Default Maersk challenges

Since Tom Hanks gave up his command, it seems the Maersk Alabama has been going downhill.

There was a post on here sometime ago asking and questioning the viability of Capt. Phillips (Tom Hanks), being sued for risking the lives of the crew. I have not seen or not really inclined to see the film and Hollywoods version of it. However according to the post that was on here it seemed that the crew were upset that the ship had entered the waters it was advised against. Maybe they were paid off by the movie makers to keep silent, as no further posts arrived on here. As the post came from Canada it could of been one of the crew off the ship, anyone remember wasn't so long back, we haven't all got craft disease I hope. Cheers John S.

Several crew members who were aboard the ship when it was hijacked in 2009 are suing Maersk Line and Mobile-based Waterman Steamship over the attack. The hijacking captured world headlines in 2009 and again when Captain Phillips was released last year. The five-day hijacking standoff ended when Navy Seals aboard the USS Bainbridge shot and killed three of the pirates who were holding captain Richard Phillips in a lifeboat.

Nine crew members in the lawsuit filed in Alabama in 2012 say they suffered physical and emotional injuries after Somali pirates boarded. Some crew members were held at gunpoint with Phillips, and others hid in an engine room. Two have settled out of court with Maersk Lawyers , the rest should have started trial in December , but has gone into mediation , giving further delays

Ref. being lined up on deck. How many can remember the same in China especially in winter, for a short arm inspection. Came almost to a head when British Seamen were refusing to go. All right for some if you were an exhibitionist I suppose. Cappys plums might have got frostbite. Cheers JS.

Remember it well John, experienced it numerous times 'every' crew member except Master lined up on deck both arriving and prior sailing, all with armed guards with twitchy fingers, any dissent and you were kept there for hours regardless of weather conditions. Even had to have an armed guard every time went for a draught reading and additionally show port pass on stepping off gangway and show it again prior stepping onto gangway, although having an armed guard with me all the time. Had to remember (not difficult!!!) the draughts as not allowed to carry pencil and paper ashore, nor were you allowed pencil or paper on the bridge entering or leaving port and cabins also searched for sketches (if you were daft enough to do any), nothing changed on my last visit there on business early 1990's. Not one of my favourite places.
