    Default Boats self inflicted disasters

Can anyone clarify why once again illegal immigrant boats are being rescued in Indonesian waters. Australian vessels have no obligation to rescue in most cases. It is the closest vessels to the occurrence which are legally and morally responsible for any rescue attempts. There are literally hundreds of fishing vessels available for any rescue plus the Indonesian naval and coast guard forces. For the Indonesian government to refuse to let those who have left their shores illegally to return and be prosecuted by them for illegal entry into their own territory certainly smacks of religious overtones. Believe that no ****** country would stop a fellow ****** from entering their home and to give succour to, believe something like this is in their Holy Book. However the press once again think they are on to a good story and with their usual lack of knowledge are trying to play politics with the new government who inherited this lot from the last incompetent lot who were in. My answer would be stop all this giving away of taxpayers money to countries like Indonesia, ok this would not suit the beef producers of this country, but tough titty. I have nothing against foreign aid for disasters and such, but to give regularly to a country which should with all its own wealth not support itself to me is stupid. India is a good example of this, we are not responsible for their domestic problems, and they have the effrontery to send space ships to Mars, whilst holding the other hand out for baksheesh. What is wrong with our thought processes. Cheers John Sabourn

John the fact is the boat was in Indonesias search andc rescue zone but they refused to go to it's assistance. So far two boats have been returned to Indonesia but I fear we have a way to go yet before they stop completely but the numbers arriving is only about 15% of what was arriving under Labor.
But the interesting fact that no politician talks about is how they got to Indonesia in the first place. To get in there you must have a visa, even Aussies now, so if they arrived by plane they would have a visa and papers. Did they arrive in Indonesia by boat, if so from where? UN resolution 147 from 1952 clearly states, 'anyone seeking refugee status or asylum must do so in the first safe country they come to.' How mnay safe countries did they come through to get to Indonesia? The same applies to those arriving in UK.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

John what you say is correct. We have been through all this stuff and gobsh..te by the press before,. Why in this case don't they come out with the truth and say that Indonesia is not doing its maritime duties and letting people die in the sea. In any mayday call there is always someone running it, that person or department qualifies what ships (those nearest) are to attend and extend their services. It appears that Indonesia doesn't even have these basic maritime services, and these are one of the countries who are in the so called new shipping laws set up for maritime nations. Just shows what I said about the laws and that they will come to nothing if Indonesia is an example of those party to the agreements. They should be shown what they are world wide, not obeying the basic principles and law of the sea, and should not even be considered for membership of the new so called marine conventions. Regards John Sabourn PS They get into Indonesia by the part of my first, marked out by the asterisks. JS PPS What value an Indonesian Cert. of Competency, is laughable. JS

#2. The UKs problems are all self inflicted. The choices that were made by politicians most of which weren't ratified by the Nation itself is proof of that. It is a matter of time now before Brussels has the veto of everything that happens in Europe and every country will lose its right for self rule so to speak. Australia is a different problem where obviously the problem is groups of illegals entering the country with the connivance of a so called friendly country, which does not consider itself to be breaking any laws as such. I certainly wouldn't put them on my Birthday list. Then you get people frightened to upset them. Its about time the so called Press came out with the truth instead of skirting the edges of, either that or keep their big gobs shut. Cheers John Sabourn
