Pool fisher anniversary.
34 YEARS AGO TONIGHT, 5/6 NOVEMBER, 1979.
The Pool Fisher sank in heavy weather off the Isle of Wight. with13 dead. Two young lads were rescued.
I was a witness at the Inquest and Court of Inquiry,.
RIP to the dead, only three bodies recovered.

Re: Pool fisher anniversary.
They say time heals all Brian. But it doesn't those seamen lost, had wives and familes who will never forget, the general public however have very short memories. People should be reminded of these men amongst many others during war and peace who were cut down before their time. Regards John Sabourn

Re: Pool fisher anniversary.
Regret to say John, most of the public wouldn't have an idea what you are talking about, they have no idea what a merchant navy is or what merchant navy personnel do. Even on programmes about the merchant navy the personal are depicted wearing RN uniform and caps and a gun on the foredeck.
Now if somebody from 'X' Factor was involved it would be front page news

Re: Pool fisher anniversary.
It would be nice to know just how many shipping casualities there are these days on an annual count. Covering total loss, partial loss, and loss of crew members. I know recently there was one very brief piece of info. given out by the media about 2 hostages Master and chief taken off some vessel off Africa. After this no news whatsoever. There must be records kept somewhere and those who browse the internet may have sighted. For instance there will be definite records kept of pirate attacks as believe all such are routed through a Centre at Singapore. Ref shipping casualities should be in Lloyds List if still put out as a paper, and is unavailable here in Oz to the best of my knowledge. John Sabourn
