Re: Whammies..........
There must be a lot of terminology , from sailing through steamship to today's No ship days that will as we die off become lost . Not knowing how difficult it would be to do , it would be nice to have a thread with a table , in sortable alphabetic order so words like Whammy could be recorded , the slang words that die away , would to me be things like the Bangladeshi description of the machine that flew them home to Dhaka , that was the Steam Chicken , a good description of a flying mechanically propelled bird then more common things , like Tab Nabs , Turks Heads , Back Springs , Dogs Cock , an on line dictionary here that could be added to and enhanced would be a nice thought

Like so many I once caught an acronym, but a couple of shots of penicilin fixed it.

Re: Whammies..........
I think that many of us caught "Half a Gross" it was those days very common, but thank goodness there was a sure cure!
Mine wasnt Penicillen.it was old old remedy taht my Grandma gave to me!
Made of some Leave (very very bitter) and two doses of that fixed it ,it was used for many other Ailments too, wish i knew what it was called now! No not for "Half a Gross" haha!

Re: Whammies..........
Charpai, Charpaya or Charpoy (Persian, Urdu, Saraiki, Punjabi, Pashto چارپائی; char "four" + paya "footed") is a traditional woven bed used in Pakistan and India. In some languages like in Punjabi and Saraiki, it is also called a Manjaa or Manji and in Sindhi and Saraiki it is also called a Khatt, Khaatt or Khattra. It consists of a wooden frame bordering a set of knotted ropes. Traditionally the user would lie directly on top of the ropes without an intervening mattress. Its making begins with the tying of a jee (Life knot) at one corner of the bed.

Re: Whammies..........
What about the expression Belay there. Did someone forget the word stop, the words jildy and asti must have come across from indian crews, the same as cha or char. Why does one box the compass, have never seen one put up a fight. Why does one shoot the sun and never a star or planet. We already had splice the mainbrace in an earlier post. Must be many more lurking in the back of the mind. John Sabourn
