Young man, (I have to call you that because you have not been polite enough to give us your name) yes, we are from different cultures, but we here also respect our elders especially when seeking advice from them. And yes we do have patience, and Rob has tried to lead you along the correct path prior to, and after your unwarranted remarks in your post #16, but alas it seems the answers are not what you were hoping for. Why not follow the initial suggestions in that advice, you appear to be computer literate so optimising the 'Search Engine' for 'Careers in the Merchant Navy' will lead you on a correct course. Life normally does not lead us down easy paths to Utopia but we have to follow the twist and trials that it throws at us to reach our desired goal, this means not only hard work and research and the first clues have been given to you.
There have been people prior to yourself, and older than you, seeking our advice which has been freely given, some with humour and some without. The trait of the British seamen's life has found it necessary to have a sense of humour which has got us through some very dangerous situations or made them seem less dangerous, perhaps as a person not used to 'our foreign ways' our humour may seem rude, it is not! nor perhaps was it intended to be
With respect to your post # 16, none of us can change what has happened in the past, and history has shown that both invaded and invaders benefited from exploration. It has always amazed me why countries such as your own, with their vast resource of educated peoples who were paragons of education and civilisation before we could walk (your words) let a bunch of men from a very small ship or ships over take over such a vast country. I do, after many decades on this earth, come to the conclusion that it was the infighting amongst their own tribes and the inability of the young to listen to their elders that caused their downfall.

Firstly that post was for guelliver, as he made mockery of foreign students studying hard in britain by calling them frauds and cheats, Whats the problem if we want to have our higher education in your country, When EAST INDIA COMPANY arrived we welcomed them like perfect host but they back stabbed, still we never criticize anyone for our past, it was some eople on this forum who took out the worse from me. And after rob's answers im convinced that Good people too live in Britain who are there to answer your queries THANK YOU ROB. And i was just here to ask is it ok to start merchant navy career at an age of 23(which seems too old for me as you people have started careers in your teenage)

I think you must remember that the guys on this site wet to sea 50 years or more ago, when the British merchant fleet was the largest in the world. We could pick and choose what ships we wished to serve on, a vastly different time. The way of life is not the same any more, however the advice to explore the internet is the way forward, but you have to take heed that it is not easy for anyone to obtain a life at sea in todays climate. I would however wish you the best of luck in your efforts, Regards KT

You people looted our wealth to a great extent, tonnes and tonnes of gold jewelry and other precious material were stolen from india which landed in britains treasury. So what if we comes to britain and get employement there! what if we demand you back the KOHINOOR DIAMOND? will you return it....huh and a question did you lost your job due to a qaulified Indian taking up your place, i think so.
Dear oh dear oh dear, where do you get your information or perceived notions from?
My job was eventually taken by a Filipino, who are arguably less well qualified than the Indians(often with more bogus qualifications than even the Indians.),but were certainly less 'bolshie' and far cheaper than their Indian counterparts, and certainly more amenable to work with, particularly where hard graft entered the equation, as well as coming from a maritime nation, which India basically is not.Oh true,India has maritime coasts, but strange to say that the Indian officers I sailed with usually came from the more obscure central Indian states, and only ever read about ships, until one day they managed to wangle their way into a nautical college...
I was fairly happy about handing over to the Filipinos because the shipowners were once again cutting their costs and getting rid of the Indians as well as the British,so the Indians too lost their jobs.
I did not mind training up Filipinos who were paid one-third the salary that an Indian officer would obtain, because I knew the Filipino would make good use of his salary, unlike the 'grasping'Indians who went home and spent their British wages on expensive foreign motor car imports and electronic equipment and employed yet more servants to bolster their own elevated status within their home community.
Believe me,I do know this, because remember the non-tax paying Indian officers were my shipmates/colleagues whom I lived aboard with for six months at a time-and naturally you do tend to find out how each other lives ashore.

I get sick to death of the thoughts of whatever our forefathers did hundreds of years ago as being our legacy , The slave trade , the plunder , the killings , unfair treatment , the sack of Jerusalem , the minority of landed gentry that carried this out treated the lower ranks of our society equally badly , we have no apologies to make , no more than the Norman French owe us an apology for their invasion .Life is in real time , history is a lesson , how abysmal was the Indian treatment of Moslems at partition , as nations we have all had regrettable things done in our name . When offered the hand of assistance in any culture it is exceedingly bad manners to bite at it . You want our Queen's jewellery then sue for it in the international courts , much was won or given ,
as for lecturing us here on International Students we have hundreds of bogus academies closed by the UK customs with thousands of bogus students , who never took an hour of education , but earned money working illegally , the people involved have sucked millions of pounds from our system . So please don't tell me about how beneficial students are ,the system has been tightened because of fraudulent people largely from the sub continent of India . studying is not your answer , getting the required experience is , seafaring qualifications are by experience and an examination on competency , based on working knowledge . My advice Is as I have now said several times , jobs here are non existent . They really have gone ! . you need to get one to get the experience , a degree will not help . Except in getting the first job as a trainee , apprentice or cadet . now bee a good chap and go research what I have told you

Help please please please.
I don't believe that this guy is an Indian atall I think that he is a wind up merchant.I cant understand why anybody would want to waste their time on him.By his spelling it doesn't add up, easy words spelt incorrectly words which may give many of us on here a problem to spell spelt correctly. Why come on here looking for help and using a nome de plume,I also think that he is on GMT or BST as it is at the moment.
Regards.
