Whilst Santander has an awful name for customer service, it is reported in the Mail on Sunday that we need have no worries about our money in the UK division of the bank. They are saying that it is a separate division from the main Spanish Bank plus it is the most profitable. The challenge is: when do you ever believe anything a bank says?

I have a few Bob in Santander, I spread it around in January , now I am thinking of I dont know what to do,
Stick it under the matress for the Burglar to find maybe. or hide it under a brick in the garden
In the bank you can get ripped off, Investmentrs you can get ripped off, in the house you get the burglars .
The only way is to spend it before it is too late. Somehow you just cant win anymore.

Captain and Alf.
I do not trust information issued from either politicians or banks, particularly when it comes to my money, an example:
Approximately September 15th, 2008. Senator John McCain (Rep. Arizona), Republican candidate for President. "The U.S. economy is basicly sound." Approximately September 17th, 2008, two days later, it is announced that the United States is officially in a recession.
When I was in business I had a personal rule, if something starts to smell bad act straight away. If your nose catches a whiff like a soft centered fxxt, and you ignore it, next comes a green horrible mist seeping under the door to your problem. You ignore it...it becomes so bad you finally open the door...to be swamped by a room full of shxx.
There is whiff regarding Greece. If Greece drops the Euro and reverts to the drachma, Greece will more than likely default on its bail-out money. Which will ripple through the financial world. As we speak, Spain and Italy have their hand on the door knob, and should Greece default, they will be forced to open that door, as Germany does not have enough money to bail them out too (France is in somewhat financial trouble also). If this happens the euro will devalue against major non-euro currencies
If it were me, I would scurry as fast as I can into a stronger non-euro currency: pounds, U.S./ Cdn./ Oz dollars etc., if we are talking large numbers it would be Swiss franks.
I certainly would not put my financial trust in Santander and what words of assurance they issue. Santander is not going to tell you bad news and cause a run on their bank.

There are branches of Santander here in Oz but only as merchant type banks. The problem with Europe is not so much the Euro, though I do see it as a problem, but the fact there is a common currency but no common budget. The upcoming election in Greece, June 17th, will be a referendum on the Euro. My bet, for what it is worth, the Greeks will stay with the status quo, anyhting else will see them just about wiped out.

Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.

I donr believe any of them , Banking has changed Dramatically since the days when people behind the Counter spoke to you instead of a Machine outside on the street.
Banks make Billions in Profits and the top Doggies and Head Honcho,s get huge Salaries more than Prime ministers, and they dont realy care about Mr and Mrs Ordinary at all.
They charge for every thing and even Collude with each other to have Control over everyones money.
The Mr Bigs and the Banks control this deadly world of Finance. Europe is now in a situation controlled purely by Banks manipulation. The People have no Control what so ever.
They just print Billions when ever they want huge Debt to be paid by the People.
Greece and Spain were poor Countrys before they joined the Euro set up now they are even Poorer because they have been used up by Banks and Foreign Industry using them as cheap Labour to build Cars and other products normally manufactured in Germany.
Banks are bad news they have colluded the Debt with Poverty stricken Countrys and made the people pay dearly. Glenn in Australia
