True Glen, but then here in Oz the biggest investers in bamk shares are the super funds. Dividends help to build up super levels. But I do agree that there are some around the world that are very poorly run.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

It took me almost 2 hours of phone calls to Santander yesterday to change my address, got so much wrong info, went through 5 different call centers, because i could not give my old mobile number would not allow my request, each call center had different security questions, all said there was no other way if i did not know, last one never asked for phone number and request completed, all worked in different ways

It was reported by the BBC the other day that if Santander did go bust the FSA guarantees all moneys up to £85,000. So I am safe.

I have an account with them and as rightly been said anything up to £85,000 is as sound as a pound. Its the smaller banks in Spain that dont want a run on them. Santander uk has not long taken over Barclay,s Bank. I would be more worried if i had property in Spain once the Greek,s drop out of the Euro which is inevitable. It will have a knock on effect all over Europe. Germany included. But property in Spain will become a no no. It is estimated up to 6,000,000 Euro,s have been withdrawn from Spanish banks last week alone. And a lot of the smaller banks in Spain and Italy could well be emptied out over the next few weeks. But i myself have little faith in banker,s and i have an account with 3 banks these days rather than having all my eggs in one basket. And lets not forget there is one bank that should be as safe as houses in the UK the R.B.S. We the taxpayer own it after bailing it out. My advice get an account with them just in case? There is of course one certain way of securing your money {gold} I cant see any depriciation in the gold market for a long time use it as a doorstop knowone would ever think it was real. The problem i have is the 3 accounts dont add up to £100 and you wouldn,t or you would believe how easy it is to still get hold of a credit card with up to £2,500 instant credit. I took a look in my refrigerater and food stores today trying to find something that was produced in Greece !!!!!! Anything never found a thing. We as seaman can go back 40 or 50yrs and all know the Greeks avoided paying tax {Flags of convinience} Who is to blame afraid the Greeks themelves. You can lead a horse to water................... No pockets in shrouds lads Regards Terry.

I've taken my cash out of Santander, just to be on the safe side. So too has Kent County Council.

i once did some house maintainance for a rich Greek, was for a few weeks, you literally had to ambush him to get paid, the strokes he tried to pull
    , phone his
wife to ask where he was she said he is away, but i saw him drive his car on the driveway 30 minutes befor, he owned a huge hotel, asked me to paint all the bedrooms over 20, i knew i would never get paid, said i would be paid when all were painted ,, found out nobody would work for him, so i went there on a monday, spent a few hours in one bedroom, painted the walls black,, locked the room up and never went back he never contacted me,
