B/T Identity certificate
I have just found an Identity certificate for my father who was a merchant seaman. Next to his photograph are various numbers and dated ranging from October 1918 to April 1921. Can any one tell me what these numbers and dates may relate to ? Thankyou. Moya

Hello Moya,
I would guess that you have a CR 10 card and the numbers would be official numbers of the ships he served on in that period. The dates to the right side would be his date of engagement on each vessel.
If you post the numbers they can be converted into ship names.

Hugh

Hello Vernon,
No, you would never find a photo in a CRS 10 file.
CRS 10's are Fifth Register [1941 - 1972]. The date mentioned by Moya is 1918 - 1921 which were covered by CR 10 cards. I am assuming that Moya received this record from FMP or Southampton. I am also assuming that it is not an original RS2 identity book.

Hugh

Sorry, don't know how to scan. I got the details from Find My Past. It is a C.R 10. They appear to be two separate pages. The first one with his ID cert no: 356998 followed by the MNS Region (Wolverhampton) and regional number 217988A, then his name, (John Masterson) rating (seaman) date of birth and nationality, and then Dis A No: 904978. On the second page alongside his photograph are :- 110636. 7.10.18. 112633 12.18. 135553 6.19. 131283 2.20. 120934 10.20. 144423 11.20. 97819 11.20. 155467 4.21. I think he may have sailed out of Liverpool, as he lodged with a Liverpool family until his marriage in 1931 when he set up home there, he was sailing up until about 1960. Thankyou for your interest. Moya

Dis A No: 904978. Is of course his actual Seamans Discharge Number which would be shown on his Seamans Book etc!
The Number 97819 does'nt look like a Ships Official Number to me,but i may be wrong!
When was he Born? Was it perhaps 1903 in Liverpool??
Would his Book etc look like these!
Cheers Just asking! Also for my learning! haha!
