Acon Glory
Hello everyone,
I am tried to get more information on an explosion that happened on the MT Acon GLory in 1977. ahmed khokhar was killed on this explosion. I am trying to find out where the body was buried. the only information i have is that it was somewhere in athens greece with the rest of the crew that got killed on this accident.
Maybe someone knows the name of the company or has some information that could get me started.
Thank you very much

Anco Glory......
Welcome Konstantina.
The ship's name was ANCO GLORY (not Acon Glory)
A few details to start you off.
m.t ANCO GLORY ( LR/IMO No..5304982) -19,250 tonnes dwt- built in 1958 ,was an ex-Norwegian tanker, named TERNOY sold to Greeks in 1973,first renamed APPOLONIAN GLORY,then in 1974 renamed ANCO GLORY,and the owners recorded as Apollonian Glory Co SA,Piraeus,Greece.
Reported as on fire in position 8.27.12N/104.16.18E off Kampuchea) 14.7.77 whilst on a delivery voyage from Bangkok(Thailand) to Kaohsiung,Taiwan) for scrap] - total loss - reported as abandoned after 9.79 at Singapore, where presumably she had been towed.
I'm sorry I can find no information about her explosion in Greece earlier in 1977 which you mention....
ANCO(Anglo Nornaess Company) was a consortium of Scandinavian tanker companies founded by Erling Naess in the 1950’s,taking the name ANCO in 1964 when it amalgamated with British tanker companies.
It ceased operating in 1983.
Two photos of her below, one as originally named TERNOY,the other as ANCO GLORY.(same vessel)
Regards
Gulliver

thank you so much for this information. The explosion was actually in Thailand with 10 dead men. Four were identified and sent to their families but the others were burned and couldnt possibly be identified so they were all sent to Athens. MR KHOKHAR was one of them, together with Greek 3rd Engineer MR KOURTIS. Im trying to find the KOURTIS family ( that knows where the grave is) as i guess this is my best bet
Any other info will be greatly appreciated!
