Hansard Report
Whilst we may or may not be allowed to print this travesty verbatum on this site there is nothing legally wrong with providing a link to the text which I am doing below. Its quite a long read but puts it all in perspective. To say that it made my blood boil to imagine this Government Representative standing there spouting his nonsense is an understatement.

Thanks for that QM, VERY INTERESTING.
If you know how to repeat this mornings BBC PARLIAMENT on Channel 81 you will see him "in action" in a debate on the subject at Westminster. He was pathetic, and even compared them to Russian Generals with a chest full of medals. The "man" is totally unrepentant.
.
.Is it called BBC I PLAYER OR SOMETHING? where you can see a programme that you have missed.

I have just sent my response:
Having read the Hansard report for the debate on the 6th December 2011 pm regarding the Arctic Convoy medals I have to say that I am truly appalled by your attitude.
I am an ex Merchant Navy Officer and I have sailed on the Murmansk run during the winter in the 1970s. Let me tell you it was not a fun place to be, and I was there in peace time without the threat of being attacked and sunk by the enemy. Only when you have experienced such conditions can you possibly have any conception of what these heroic men endured. Why you appear so scared of doing right by these heroes defeats me. As a Government Representative you should be supportive of the motion to honour them. After all without their actions during that horrifying period you personally may well have not achieved the status that you enjoy today. We may well have all been living under a totally different regime today. Their actions contributed to the overall success of the British during the war. You, by your current attitude, are not serving the best interests of the British public and I would urge you to review your motives for denying them the respect they deserve.

Thank you for your e-mail. This acknowledgement has been triggered electronically and I have not yet had a chance to read your message. If the message relates to a personal issue with which I can assist, I will reply as soon as possible.
As you may imagine, I receive a large amount of correspondence – sometimes approaching 1,000 letters, e-mails and telephone calls a week. If you are a constituent, please ensure that you have given your full address, including your post code. Please note that there is a strict rule within the House of Commons that MPs may only act on behalf of their own constituents.
I am always keen to hear the views of constituents, but unfortunately I am unable and unlikely to respond personally to standard campaign e-mails. If you have any personal points which you would like to put to me, please write to me at the House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA and I would be happy to respond.
All non-constituent e-mails relating to defence are automatically forwarded to my Private Office at the Ministry of Defence.
With best wishes,
Andrew Robathan

I agree with all the contributors about this minister being disgraceful even though I was not in the war except in my pram.
He must think it was only the army that won the war disregarding the thousands of merchant navy crews that lost their lives to keep Russia supplied. There was an excellent piece by Tony Parsons in the daily mirror today on this subject which said it all.
