Cunard Buildings.
Firstly I just heard it on the radio that the bell of the Mauretania is going up for auction this week in London,it is expected to fetch about £10.000.It has been hanging in the Cunard Bldgs which leads me onto the story.I think the last tennants have now moved out so the bldg is going up for sale.Despite the amount of beds in the hotel business in Liverpool there is talk that the bldg could be converted to a top class hotel.
The reasoning behind this is that Liverpool is confident in eventualy getting permission to use the Pier Head as a cruise terminal turn around port.If this does come off to have the Cunard Bldg as a hotel right on site would be ideal they say for passengers joining or leaving their cruise or in fact combining a cruise with a holiday in Liverpool as well as.I seen somewhere last week a show (I think it was on the internet) of a show around of the bldg, very interesting and there are still lots of documents down in the vaults ,I hope the Maritime Museam get their hands on these and they dont end up in a skip.Try googling Cunard Blds and see if you can find that show if you are interested.
Regards.
