Re: The royal t.v. Prog.
The Steamship Shieldhall is the largest working steam ship in Britain. A member of the National Historic Fleet she serves as a sea going tribute to Britain's maritime heritage. As a passenger you too can experience the golden age of steam by booking on an excursion or visiting her in Southampton.

Withdrawn from commercial service in 1985, she was purchased by the Solent Steam Packet Charity who continue to operate Shieldhall today. Now based in Southampton and operated by a team of dedicated volunteers, enjoy alongside functions or sail along Southampton Water / The Solent with a selection from 2 hr to all-day cruises.

SS Shieldhall
Shieldhall was built in 1955 to carry treated sewage from Glasgow to the sea for dumping. She was sold to Southern Water in 1977 and then into preservation in 1988.
The steamship operates cruises and excursions around the Solent and further afield. Engine room courses are also available where you can learn how to prepare the vessel for a voyage and spend a day at sea, operating the boilers and sailing the ship.
