Qe2
According to the Sunday Express an ex Cunard Engineer is trying to bring the QE2 back to London.
He has spent £250k of his own money so far.
Apparently the QE2 is languishing in Dubia, the maintenance personnel have been removed and she is rapidly deteriorating.
A clause in her sale forbids the scrapping of her until 2018.
regards
Vic

Yes I did, it was a bit of a sly one. The answer was the QE2 was meant by Cunard to be the 2nd ship to carry the name "Queen Elizabeth" and during building its name inscribed on bow and stern and all plans etc were labelled "Queen Elizabeth 2".
However when Lizzy named the ship here actual words were "I name this ship Queen Elizabeth the second" instead of "Queen Elizabeth TWO". This put Cunard in a bit of a tizz wazz as effectively Lizzy was naming the ship after herself, so were they meant to follow protocol and change the name to reflect was Lizzy had named her as, which would have been a huge undertaking, renaming plans, cutlery, linen etc. In the end they just kept stum and carried on as if Lizzy had named her "Queen Elizabeth 2".
Both the original Queens Mary and Elizabeth were named after monarchs of those names.

Re: Qe2
Pictured: How the QE2 has been given a new lease of life as a floating five-star hotel in Dubai thanks to a $100million refurbishment based on the original design.
State-owned Dubai World bought the QE2 from Cunard Line in 2007, but the 2008 financial crisis delayed any plans for the 40-year-old vessel, one of the world's most famous ships.
Now the QE2, permanently moored at Mina Rashid port, has been refurbished based on the original design, from its carpets to the theatre and even restaurant menus featuring dishes served in the liner's heyday.

Re: Qe2
Whilst I applaud the efforts made by Dubai Govt/private enterprise to restore this beautiful ship and keep her alive, having also seen a picture of her stern it somehow seems alien to see her flying the UAE Ensign and port of registry as Mina al Rashid, just a small thing I suppose, but somehow grates.
Did the USA change the flag and P O R on the QM in LA (that's the nearest I'll ever get to 'textspeak')
