I dont know if this is the correct thread to put this on but here we go.I know we have a few members on here that like to dig into history and trace ships and trips of the past.I've just had a pint or two with my brother,he can tell me a few good yarns of his ships in the past and remembers all their names but this one he can't remember.(By the way he was a friend of Lou Barron and used to drink with him at his local and go to his house)The ship was a Anglo American Tanker, sailed from Immingham to Houston and arrived back in the U.K. and docked at Swansea on V.E. day,any ideas boys?

Hi Tony, see if you can check these dates out for me.He now thinks it could've been the day before V.J.Day.
V.J. Day was the 15th August 1945 so try that and the 14th,definitely Swansea. He joined the Dominion Monarch in September45 so that puts it about right.Definitely joined her at Immingham,he said the bosun was from over that way,a big B,if you were on deck chipping he did'nt like two of you sitting by each other talking,he would come over and grab one of you by the ear and pull you away.Imagine that happening today.

Hi Tony, thanks for that info I was able to pass it on to my brother who was very pleased. He was surprised it took some 19 days from Houston to Swansea but I suppose if they were doing a steady 10 knts thats about right.I think we forget just how slow the ships were years ago.Would I be right in thinking that a Lamport boat and a Houlder boat Ii was on down to B.A. around 1957 used to chug along at about 6 knts.
45 crew not paid a lot and not fed a lot so time was not a problem.
    Regards.
