Re: Breaking news
A recent survey of the people there shows that the younger generations are in favor of capitalism, whilst the older prefer the old communist system.
It was part of the old USSR and the plan is for a pro Russian puppet gov put in by Putin. No pun intended.
Will it happen, quite possible.
Will the west go to war over it, very doubtful, no sensible country wants war now.
So we sit and wait while the polis from the west sit in their wet undies in the hope nothing will happen.

Re: Breaking news
I wonder how many Americans know their own history and how Alaska was formerly Russian and was sold to America for peanuts by the Csar of the time as was too far from St. Petersburg to control civilian wise. They were also allies of Russia during the battle of Balaclava times. And were sympathetic more to them than Britain and France. You don’t have to go very far back in history to see how loyalties can change at the drop of a hat , or more likely a change of political party. All wars are caused through politics and not the people , just the people the politics control . JS

Re: Breaking news
Going back to my schooldays when was the Great Revolution in Russia , 1929 seems to be in my memory. When Trotsky and Lenin were steaming around ,? the father of communism himself is I believe buried in London somewhere. Robert who was 7 years of age then was around , and was a 100 yesterday . So to some is not so long ago . The Queen herself must have been 2 years of age when her relatives were murdered by the revolutionary’s . That seems to be the time of the change of scenery. However the whole of the Russian community cannot be blamed for the sins of a few. The same applies to China , who are still in a stage of finding their feet in a modern world away from the serfdom of which many knew. Every country has different goals and different history’s . JS

Re: Breaking news
John.
A little earlier I think. I watched a program on TV the other night, some fascinating things came out that I didn't know about. As you know our royalty were cousins to the Romanoff's and when the revolution was in the offing, old King George was going to offer the Russian family
his cousins, sanctuary in Britain, but was advised against it by his advisors, as this was at the end of the First War, Britain was on the verge of their own revolution, and if they saw that the King was shielding his cousin it wouldn't look good, so they changed his mind, the rest is History. Only that in order to make the German family more British looking; someone came up with the brilliant idea to call the Royals the House of Windsor.

Little bit out with the date. Revolution, 1917. Czar murdered 1918.

Re: Breaking news
Yes thanks as only a school memory guess. Later Mountbatten had to anglasise his name from the German version. Similar as the German Shepherd to the Alsatian. Oh what an embarrassing world we live in today, can’t even call a spade a spade . What has been achieved do you think ? JS
Ref.#24 maybe should have shouted we refugees . JS
German version again a guess was Von Battenberg . JS

Re: Breaking news
You are correct about that bit, we now refer to them as shovels.
AS to the revolution.
Couple of years ago in St. Petersburgh and went to see the Winter palace.
This is where the Czar and his family were arrested, moved up country for their exit care of injected lead poisoning.
The palace is something to see, the main room is almost 1000 square meters in size.
The revolutionists complained that the Czar had too much so he had to go so the people could be fed.
But the palace was kept just as it was, the people, well they survived but not from profits of the palace.
As tp Putin, I think he is just playing games with the west and if he cuts off the gas supply, much of the EU and UK will feel the cold not the heat.
As to Billy Biden, when ever the USA is in a spot of financial bother it has found somewhere to go to war, is this another example??

Re: Breaking news
Who owns what?
Here in Oz we have some who still say that the land was stolen from the Abbos.
It is amazing the number of non Abbos who get involved.
But the fact is there is not a country on this planet that at some time was not taken over or invaded by another.
Many split up as a result of change, Norway for example split from Sweden in 1901, now we have Russia attempting to regain lands it had during the days of USSR.
No one will ever be satisfied under these circumstances so just carry on , fly the flag you want, drink the grog you want and forget about it all.
After all if Den can make Tab nabs what have we to fear about.

Re: Breaking news
On the tabnab theme, Europe and the world is on the brink of WWIII and our newspapers and media are obsessed with whether or not Boris had a piece of cake on his birthday and according to some outlets every bite he took caused some one else's death. Personally I couldn't care if he had a piece of cake or a piece of ass, there are more important things to worry about and you can bet your bottom dollar all these overpaid self righteous newscasters, commentators etc broke more than one rule
