    Default Ore Carriers

G'Day all just had to get my old book out,
I sailed on MV OREDIAN to Narvik, Bone, Seven islands in Canada alongside for 20 mins never got out the engine room 1963.
    then back to Wales
was unable to get up stairs on a double deck bus for 3 weeks, I recon she could have cork screwed in dry dock.

    Hi
I sailed on Oredian from Port Talbot in 1968 to Vittoria and Murmansk. I was Junior Sparks, aged 19. I got mugged in Vittoria!

G'day all Houlders iron ore carriers, I sailed, is not the word skated is more like it on the MV OREDIAN OFF No. 186258. the table sides were never down the table cloths were always wet in the officers mess. the chairs were always bolted down, it was like sailing in a flat bottomed tub, and that was when she was tied up at the jetty, my trips entailed Narvik in Norway for Swedish Ore, coming down the Irish sea was like surfing all the way, Keeping the engines from cutting out was the big problem in the engine room as she tended to lift her stern out the water at times, next trip was to Bone in the Med most of the crew who had been there went pale all good clothing gear was wrapped up and put away only old gear was worn, I thought they were crackers but did as told, when we loaded the ore it was just what looked like powderd Red Rust got into every thing not closed boiler suits were red in no time, then back again to Port Talbot or Barry never took long to load or unload them by this time all the clothing we wore too Bone had fallen apart with the rust during washing, then off to Seven Islands some where on the Atlantic coast of Canada tied up on Stand by, full away in 20 minites never even saw the place, the back to Port Talbot.
I used to sleep like a baby on her.
Also sailed on the Cerinthus and Clymene who were much more stable in heavy weather

I joined the Oregis in Port Talbot as pantry boy.First morning after breakfast went down below to my cabin only to find my mattress and bed linen thrown in the alleyway, whats going on here i thought.Mr mate appeared one of those guys that wore the Navy jumper and wore the beret,he informed me that he was responsible for the act and that he would be down here every morning and if I dont make my bunk as soon as I rise before I turn to this will happen every time, what a P***k with a capital P.
