Sorry but your wrong a BIG reorganisation is needed.
Where I live in Wales there is an ambulance station 5 miles away but on the two occasions I called an ambulance for my wife it came Shrewsbury which is 30 miles away, our nearest hospital.

Hi John Albert,
I live walking distance from the Bolton Royal Hospital, and there is an Ambulance Station there, and on the other side of my house is the HQ of the NW Ambulance Stations, again only walking distance from me.
But when I dial 999 for the Ambulance, the controllers are in Liverpool nearly 40 miles away.
So that is why I was questioning it.
It seemed to be a strange way of operating, when the previous time I needed one it was controlled by my local stations.

It's quite normal for control rooms for all emergency services to be some distance away, here on the Island we used to have our own Fire Control, but again the the big bully ie money gets in the way, and so is put out to tender, and in our case if I call for a fire engine I am talking to a controller in Surrey. What a lot of people don't know that a few years ago the then government decided that there would be regional control rooms, covering approx five counties, so a very large building was built in Hampshire for our region, at huge cost, the idea was eventually scrapped and the building laid empty for some years, and then sold off at a loss. Amazing what fun you can have wasting other people's money, kt

Same here in the East Midlands Keith, they built a big new control center fr the rescue services. The services didn't 't want it, they advised against it.
They got it it, it didn't fit their needs, never been used.
Politician that imposed the white elephant ....... Two shags Prescott.

What upset me was a certain thread that I believe was over the top however reading through all the threads I have been surprised at the reaction,so many different opinions of which ,are all creditable to the state of the NHS,but what can we do to improve it.I believe it is a dinosaur that has been created and has got big that no one can control it ,over the years many smaller hospitals have been closed Downone example one just a few miles from where I live was built during Blaires reign,half of it has been closed down ,a lot of the services they provided were trans ferried to one 15mls away among them were A and E.Its. about time the different parties sat Down and forgot about their political differences and got the NHS sorted out.Democracy what democracy.Sorry for the spat but I was upset at the time and really pleased I found this website.

Hi Dave, as you say the NHS is a huge problem, as i posted before. i can only relate to my own area, and on the island 40 years ago we had 3 main hospitals and two cottage hospitals, these were ideal to free up beds in the main hospitals. now we have one main hospital, and i dont know how much the island population has risen, but it certainly is higher. in my own case i have had 3 operations cancelled in the last 6 weeks ( not an Urgent op), and only on Friday Southampton hospital phoned me and asked if i was willing to travel over for the op, and they will pay for the ferry and a taxi each way. The only way is to expand the NHS, or introduce a private paying scheme it seems. One thing is certain, the Prime minister rowing in and having a pop at the Doctors who are already stretched will not help. These same doctors sit in their consulting room seeing 6 patients per hour, and now she wants them working even more hours, no wonder they suffer with burn out, what will happen she will drive doctors right out of the system, and go abroad, . just my take on it, others may differ, kt

Hospital Doctors work longer hours than GPs. My son visited me for Christmas, a 300 mile journey with his family on Christmas Eve, But on Christmas Day had to drive back as he had to work Boxing Day [Monday] and didn't get home until the following day, Tuesday a long 36 hours after a 300 mile drive on Christmas Day, So not a lot of Happy Christmas. there.
Most of his Patients are suffering from Alcohol abuse and want new Livers,
