    Default Port Talbot.

I was watching a show on the TV a couple of days ago maybe it was the antique show Flog It from Port Talbot I noticed the chimneys that were spewing out a hell of a lot of smoke I did think to myself at the time I didn't think that would be allowed in this day and age.Anyway in todays media it is reported that Port Talbot is the most polluted place in the UK,I am not surprised after seeing it on the TV the other day.
    Regards.

Never needed a chart when coasting if you were heading for the Tees, just had to look for the biggest black cloud in the sky and Middlesbrough was directly under it.

    RE: Port Talbot.

Blowing in the wind: why do so many cities have poor east ends?

From London to Paris, New York to Helsinki, poverty tends to cluster in the east.

In London, for example, the docks are downstream in the east, and docks are rarely very salubrious in cities. For much of its history, the Thames also took the city’s waste, and smell, eastward.

But then consider Paris, where the Seine flows westward, as does the Avon in Bristol. Or New York, which effectively has two rivers, and is a completely different shape. Or even Brighton, which has no rivers at all. Despite their differences, the story never varies: for poverty, look east.

One theory is that it’s all about air pollution. In the middle latitudes where most of the world’s cities can be found, the prevailing winds are westerlies, which means they blow to the east. Crudely, it has long been thought that they might take smoke and odours with them.

Port Talbot seems to be Swansea's East End.

#2 Was maybe from the brewery which at one time was supposed to brew the strongest beer in the country, made for the steelworkers. Port Talbots reputation as the home of Richard Burton used to keep the tourists coming at one time. Maybe since his death the place has gone to rack and ruin. JWS

Richard Burton was born in Pontrhydyfen, as Richard Jenkins. Pontrhydyfen is north of the larger village of Cwmavon though not to far from the towns of Port Talbot and Neath. Never heard of Port Talbot beer, Felinfoel and Brains are most likely.

I thought that John's post referring to #2 was correctly referring to Deeside which had the strongest beer in the country which was camerons strongarm brewed at Hartlepool specifically for the steelworks I took it to mean that and didn't take it as any reference to Port Talbot beer

India gets a big rap in that lot, thought Bancok would have been in there as it is one of the most polluted.
But the figures given for UK are not surprising.
With population increasing as the current rate pollution of some kind will continue
