Re: Closed Thread.
Hi Brian.
In South Aus last week customs found Ice worth $130 million in a container on board a ship from China , over the last three years customs have picked up Ice and Cocaine worth over $3billion or more, we only have a small population of around 26 million so I must be missing out on my ice and cocaine or someone is having my share. We now have a gang war in Sydney over drug distribution people being shot dead mainly of Lebanese extraction {No loss] but it wont be long before some innocent is killed, it strikes me as odd that some of the top criminals are looked on as larikins and go untouched by the police. What really gets me is that the people in high society who are the ones on the cocaine, can't see that they are helping to destroy society.
Cheers Des

Re: Closed Thread.
Here in Victoria euthanasia has been legalized!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There has been a push to legalize all drugs but it never got up.
Problem with any banned substance, as was the case in USA during prohibition, is that there will be those who say if it is so bad we must try it to find out why.
But drugs of any kind, and grog and smokes come into it, can be addictive.
Some of our regular pain killers are now by prescription only, for many people they no longer work as they have become addicted to them.
We all have some form of dependency, maybe life saving drugs, grog, smokes, even for some the humble cup of tea.
We have one gut in the community center who drinks about 24 cups of it a day, a form of addiction.
The drugs seized by the customs are only part of many hauls that occur from time to time.
It has been questioned as to whether they are allowed to be found so other consignments get through.

Re: Closed Thread.
A doctor cannot refuse to give curative care to a patient terminally ill in the US it is against his/her Hippocratic oath. They will however follow the wishes of a patients "Living Will", also the patients relative or person having a power of attorney to make life decisions. They encourage the patient to discuss this carefully with their family doctor who has been advised of the procedure, risks, side effects etc.. If the patient and representative wish for both curative and palliative care then that is so provided. If they chose not to be resuscitated then only palliative care would be provided ( morphine etc.). However no insurance company, physician, hospital or governing power has the authority to refuse curative surgery.
Reading up on this subject it became clear that a patient in the U.S. has the freedom to decide what a physician or other health care provider will or will won't do.
Further It's unethical to physically force or coheres a patient into a treatment against their will if they are of sound mind and are mentally capable to make a sound decision.
If a patients competence is questionable the physician can give the information to a legally appointed guardian or a family member.
A patient may not have the right to refuse treatment if they have an altered mental state due to alcohol and drugs, brain injury, or psychiatric illness.
A parent or guardian cannot refuse treatment or deny medical care from a child. This includes those with religious beliefs that discourage certain medical treatments (blood transfusions etc.).
Patients with communicable deceases could be isolated and treated against their will if it proved to be a threat to the general public.
Their are two laws in the United States, Federal and State. Federal law always supersedes State law. However, if certain issues are superseded by a majority vote, then Federal law will allow it. Medical euthanasia to terminate life for the terminally ill is now legal in Washington D.C., Calif. Oregon, Colorado, Vermont, Washington and under dispute in Montana, it is illegal in the other States.
If that law of failure to resuscitate was attached to a National Medical Insurance program up for a national plebiscite I'm sure it would fail miserably. That power by the medical profession or politicians would invade to many of our rights.
Thank you though for the insight.

Re: Closed Thread.
Rodders, the same applies here in Oz.
But here in Victoria a law to allow legal euthanasia has been passed.
It will be a complex situation to allow this but it can occur under some conditions.
Many think the law has been brought in to protect the medical profession. So many persons in a critical condition have been given a very large dose of Morphine and slipped away within an hour.
My dad was give similar treatment way back in 1989.
