I would stay off the politics with Carillon , all sides are guilty on that one , Tory invention was the PFI expanded exponentially by Blair/ Brown . carillon was the almost bankrupt Tarmac bunged together with Mowlem . They did some huge projects Drax, Channel Tunnel , Thames Barrier etc , they had an awful reputation for 120 day from invoice payments , but could take twelve months to sign off the invoice , two years from job finish to payment was common . to monopolise the public sector they would tender at cost , then screw the job on the extras and variations in 1999 they metamorphosed into Carillion , same tactics . if job 1 is losing job 2's money will pay for it because of their size and tendering they get the work ,KPMG as the auditors must have turned a big blind eye to 18 years of this ,

Forgive me , Rob, but surely you're having a laugh ! As an Englishman I hate to say it, but unless I've been on another planet, Britain hasn't been the 'world's policeman' for more than fifty years. However, I would agree that in this troubled world Albion should look after it's own backyard first and foremost.

The reason I mentioned Carillion was basically because I felt somebody was trying to start another political argument and we've managed with some time without them . Our local hospital Queen Alexandra is a Carillion development under pfi and to be perfectly honest it was a blur Brown development that hospital has probably cost 50% more than what building one directly would have cost so I do have strong feelings on it and I mentioned it. It was all political parties that have used these people and all the political parties and screwed up before somebody tries to take it down the line have another political argument just for the sheer hell of it

Oh and I do realise that we're not the world's policeman but what on earth as a country as big as ours ordered two aircraft carriers for I can't think what on earth we need floating airfields particular the size they are the ones we had worked well but we seem to have gone into some prestigious I've got bigger ones then you and I think this was yet another political invention to try and make it look good on the world stage personally I'd put the fences up across the south coast and become a little englander or in tune with the television programme a Little Britain person

Bit difficult to train the RAF on French carriers Lewis, their only carrier is in Toulon, two thirds of they through an 18 month refit.

Cappy, do not think I am making this up, as the French actually do have a Carrier in service with aircraft and it is operational the MOD signed an agreement for RAF pilots to train and serve on the Carrier Charles de Gaulle, all about money saves the French a few quid while our lads get time on an operational carrier. There is no one upmanship. There was a TV programme here last year like a fly on the wall programme. It was a French prog with English sub titles the rivalry between both groups was fun to watch but you could also pickup that the pilots be they French or British held each other in very high regard. I know you are not a fan of the French and it shames me to say this currently Air force , Naval and Army the French have about 30% more resources than the UK. Certainly they have nearly double the amount of Fighter/attack aircraft than the UK. You would be surprised how much military cooperation the UK & France share. Someone mentioned Drones , the ones the UK operate are French. Not trying to score points, but as Ted says the UK's armed forces are being shafted by the current folk in power. Heaven forbid if Corbyn decided he was going to scrap the UK's nuclear deterrent, one would hope we would have Generals , Admirals and Air chief marshals would have the balls to remove said individual.

R91 the carrier Charles De Gaulle is as Vic said dry docked in Toulon and has been there since o2/2017 due out at the end of this year , we do not have our carrier born aircraft yet , and the trials aircraft will start vflying at the end of the year off our own carrier, The RAF do NOT fly carrier decks the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm do.

British military drones are " Predator " and "Reaper " which are USA origin
