Re: Electric cars
Is it me or does it seem that threads and posts become a bit more sensible PM.
I SHOULD COCOA'
I should cocoa. (Cockney rhyming slang, Britain, dated, humorous) I should say so; I strongly agree (almost always used ironically or sarcastically).

Re: Electric cars
#10 Agree to that one Lewis. The oil company’s practically run small countries who are totally dependant on oil revenue. All came adrift in the Middle East though. Not enough control kept on same. When they get back on track watch the prices shoot up to replace the short falls they have experienced in the past 12 years or so. JWS.

Re: Electric cars
Hi ALL.
Yesterday on the TV there was a big blurb about moving to electric cars here in NSW, which proves to me that the people who run this State are talking out of their proverbial. One, they have sold all the electricity plants plus the lines and poles to overseas Companies, and now can't Guarantee what power will be available. But just thinking of the vast distances in N.S.W let alone Australia, example; if we don't like the meal menu's available in Cooma we have to travel at least 100 Kilometers to get to another place, and we consider ourselves lucky they are so near, the distance between towns is anything from 500 to 2000 Kilometers or more, next they will be talking about the flying Dr's plane being electric. Oil and it's by-products will be with us for a very long time.
Cheers Des

Re: Electric cars
It was announced here on local radio that the UK intends to build another five nuclear power stations to provide the power for electric cars.
Oil companies have far more power than any gov and will dictate when electric cars can run.
There is a long way to go yet with this concept.
Here in Oz distance will be the problem, try moving a road train in the Northern Territory with electric and no means of a re-charge, or across the Nuallabore!
I can see their use in towns in small countries, but when it comes to long distance, there is a long way to go yet. No pun intended.

Re: Electric cars
Here in UK we also have trouble with sometimes getting near your property, in the cities you sometimes have to park a street away from your house. Not everyone has a drive or a garage. A friend of mine lives inPerth and is always amazed our petrol is dear than in OZ, but as i tell him, you have much further to drive for everything, so evens out i suppose, kt

All diesel Black cabs (and London issued permits for non black cabs) will not be allowed to operate in London after December 2019. All London buses will be hybrid by 2020. There are already restrictions on diesel lorries (unless they meet strict guidelines) in operation in London and their exclusion zone extends beyond the congestion zone areas.
The same restrictions would not work in most areas in counties such as Devon, Cornwall, Yorkshire etc which have many isolated areas and very little or no public transport. I live in Torquay and in our part of town near the seafront our buses are one per hour Monday - Saturday and cease at 1700 hours with no buses on a Sunday. Torquay is built on seven large hills and full of elderly people so those without cars are seriously restricted in what they can do

They have been using Peat in Ireland since cocky was in the egg.
We have an abundance of it here but it is called brown coal. State gov will no longer allow it to be used yet it is one of the cleanest forms going.
But of course when you are looking to keep the 'Greens' on side you will do anything.
As for coal, here in Queensland there is enough to last for at least 500 years, that is why Adani the Indian Billionaire has opened a new coal mine there.

Ivan if the Black cabs on diesel can no longer run what will they be replaced with?
Electric is all well and good but where ae the re-charge points going to be? and what happens to the cabs already on the road?
