    Default Superstition

Today is Friday 13 an unlucky day many believe. This as with other superstitions has it's origins in religion. The crucifixion was said to happened on a Friday and there were 13 present at the last supper.

2...Just shows one can learn all the time from this site. Have never heard that one Rob will bring it up at the next meeting. The Knights Templar their modern equivilant which maintains the rituals and such, full title, " The United, Religious, Military and Masonic Orders of. The Holy Temple and Sepulchre and of St.. John of Jerasulem, Palestine, Rhodes and Malta". Only knew it was Philipe of France and the Pope who accused them of heresy so they could take over their lands and estates, the ones who escaped some finished in Scotland. Most of the Knights Templar were French and German. It is generally believed that the ones in Scotland assisted Robert the Bruce in defeating the English. Will ask someone to go through the records about the 13th on a Friday. Mind saying that I didn't like sailing on a Friday. Is. Only in the past dozen years or so that the pope has lifted the Heresy charge. Thanks popey. JS

The Norse legends included a story about 12 gods sitting at a banquet when Loki, the uninvited god, showed up to make it 13, a debacle that led to a huge battle. Numerologists view the number 12 as the sign of completion and perfection, so adding to it only causes trouble.

One belief was that a coven of witches had to contain exactly 13 members, and another suggested that if your name has 13 letters, you are fated to have the luck of the Devil. Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer and Jack the Ripper might agree, of course.

This already posted but a longer Version ??

Friday and the number 13 have developed a special relationship when it comes to bad luck. Part of this dates back to the mass roundup and execution of members of the Knights Templar, which took place on Friday, October 13 in the year 1307

Friday, October 13, 1972, was the day when a Uruguayan plane crashed along the Andes Mountains, killing 29, and a Russian plane crashed about half a mile away from the runway, killing 174

Only when the big end of town got into the act Rob. Originally were a band of warrior monks who saw free passage from the highwayman and murderers for pilgrims to the Holy Land. Then the big end of town got into the act as could see the fortunes to be. Made in claiming Jerasulem and parts of now Palestine and other parts in the name of Christendom. King Phil of France was getting hard up and the pope didn't like getting his nose pushed out. All these lords and earls etc had their own private armies and was not just the Knights. A lot of the history and facts are also about ships and the sea hence Malta and Rhodes. It is all chronicled also probably in the Vatican in Rome Must have slipped up on the one about Friday 13' maybe that's what the banquet is for tomorrow. Better not display my ignorance or might be tortured as a heretic. Cheers JWS.....
