NZ Hoki is very good and a bit like Cod, also farm grown Basa fillets are tasty.
I bought some basa fish in a supermarket here in spain.Threw it away as discovered that it was fish farmed on the Mekong river in Vietnam and texture was crap

Re: Atlantic cod fish from china.
Hi shipmates, Hi Ivan , Check my discharge book you are right !!! it was NOT HULL. but Grimsby by the dock gates, he bought all his cod from the deepsea trawlers, he said ? I dont recalled the name of the chip shop but if it was still open ? the owner would be over 100 years old, but beware of the fake cod from china/india which is sold today in many fish and chip shops.

Louis, the EU is supposed to common food hygiene standards.
The papers, this week reported that certain hams and sausages from Germany and Holland contained Hepatitis viruses.
Tesco was the named importer, although they are blameless in this instance.
Remember years ago foot and mouth and mad cow disease was rife in the UK, Europe banned British beef, why don't we ban European pig food?

Re: Atlantic cod fish from china.
Hi All.
Had a great fish and chip shop restaurant here in Cooma; sold the best Barramundi I ever tasted, unfortunately they have closed and we haven't found fish and chips that we like, we could drive down to Eden on the coast about hour and half drive, it's a long way to Tipperary but that's a long way for a feed of good fish.
CheersDes

Re: Atlantic cod fish from china.
The Chinese Basa fillets were banned here in Oz due to their point of origin.
Now we have some grown in fish farms which are now appearing at some rate. The demand for fish is such that it is the only way to guarantee supply.
Salmon and Trout are the biggest ones and produce some great fish.
But on a scientific note they have discovered that half the fish grown in fish farms are deaf????????

Happy daze John in Oz.
