Service
The meaning of the word "service" has always puzzled me. I can understand it when in the context of a waiter , car mechanic , window cleaner etc. They are providing a service.
When my mother was a young girl she went into service cleaning , serving meals , washing up , for a rich family. This was common practice for young working class girls.
"They have dedicated their lives to the service of the people and the country". This is always said about our Royal Family. How is living in luxury from cradle to grave with an army of servants to cater for every possible need or whim classified as service ?

Re: Service
As it seems that every country has a head of state I look at our royal family and I would much prefer those to the whole variety of presidents that we get elsewhere across Europe and the rest of the world at least as the royal family they are not politically biased

Re: Service
I think if put to the vote Rob the majority would agree with you.
It is the point about service I do not understand. The British taxpayers are paying for the family to live in luxury on state benefits , it is the taxpayers providing the service.

Re: Service
Is not a logical argument Louis. The taxpayers may pay a few coppers but nowhere near the subsidised drinks consumed in parliament. The royals give value for money, they buy their own drink. Most of the outlay comes from their own buildings and property's . Jws
