New laws
The question was asked, 'Why do public servants never look out of the window in the morning'?
Because if they did they would have nothing to do in the afternoon.
But as we all know they sit there and make up laws, some times so stupid one wonders if they would not be better off just looking out of the window.
There has been since August 1st new laws regarding smoking in places that sell food.
Yes we may be behind others in this, but the windows are very big here.
The law prohibits the act of smoking where any food is SERVED.
Many of our city restaurants and Cafes have al fresco dining. Tables set up on the sidewalk often with elaborate canopies and sides to keep the weather out and with winter heating.
For this they pay local councils up to $1000 per month.
Well as with any new law there will be loop holes and this one is no different.
Some smart operators have said it only concerns food SERVED.
So to get around this they take the order then the patron has to go to the counter to receive it, so it is not SERVED!!!!!
If you are a bit up market and have a private beer garden or similar the law does not apply to you.
Maybe curtains for the windows would help.

Re: New laws
John, they (politicians) are the same the world over, always meddling, it gives them something to do.
You are lucky, you only have to worry about your own Polly's,here we have the EU.
Everytime there is a crisis in the EU they bring out stupid rules.
The latest law is if you aren't in the Schengen area you are subjected to serious delays in moving between EU countries. UK subjects are suffering serious delays on trying to return from their hols.
Travel by boat from Africa, and you are welcomed by open arms.
You figure it out.

Re: New laws
Hi Vic.
In the papers here is a story that apparently the EU are in secret talks with the Aus Govt on how to stop and turn around the boats, when we started doing this the howls from the EU were very loud, the Australian govt was called all kinds of swinhunds as Herr Merkel's was welcoming all and sundry, she has changed her mind apparently, now wants to know all about what we did.
After what has happened here just recently it is not the newcomers who are the only danger, they have arrested four family members aged in their late thirties who have lived here since they were kids, they tried to bring down a passenger plane flying out of Sydney, how is this for evil bastwards they put the bomb in the suitcase of a cousin going overseas, he didn't know anything about it, and I think he was the one who potted them, the only reason it didn't work was that it was in the luggage he was taking on board himself and it was too heavy at the check in, they were also working on a gas to put on trains and buses, hopefully they will never see the light of day again.
Cheers Des

Re: New laws
Des, there have been a number fo countries, including USA who have asked about our system and how they may impliment it?
Thos who thought at the time it was evil have now come to understand that they must do something to stop the rot, particularly Europe who are now being overrun by them

Re: New laws
I suppose here in Europe we need to take a leaf out of the Australian history books and do what they did with the aborigines.
Round them up and send to places like the far north of Scotland and anywhere else that they can more or less freeze to death, or just feed them drink and keep them pissed.
