It may have said, 'England will never join the EU while I am president'
Because that is what he did say.

Re: To each his own.
Part Post 27,
Did you know that on the peak of this Cap there was an inscription , It was written in Latin.
I am not sure what the inscription says. He was challenged about why it was in Latin and not in French."
----------------------------------------------.
Some months ago ,met a new acquaintance.
Background, Born, Hawia ,Mother a local ,Father ,via ,the States. Yorkshireman.
He then came here , to live ,after many years ,in NZ.
Each time we meet,He invariably wears a Military or Naval type headgear.
Anyway, not long ago, arrived ,with one ,sporting The Royal Artillery .Badge.
I remarked on it. He Said ." No! its French" . Told him ," it 's the Regimental Motto.!'ll put the Computer on ,See what it might mean .
Google , Royal Artillery Motto.
My elder Bro. having done his National Service with the R.A.wore that Cap badge.
A word in it was
appropriate , to him ,in some respect ,when we had an argument.

Re: To each his own.
Hi All.
Read a book awhile ago about a policeman in Ballarat who was trying to get a priest arrested for all kinds of buggery drunkenness you name it but the top police in Melbourne were all Catholics. On the news yesterday they have reopened a case from about thirty years ago where this woman was slaughtered in a knife attack in the back of her shop, the DNA was changed with another case the police were investigating and no further action was taken. Now they have reopened the case with the proper DNA, It seems that a priest was accused by this woman of abusing her little boy and was going to expose him, this priest had been seen near the shop at the time of the murder, he has since died. This was at the same time as the book i was reading about the top police in Melbourne being all Catholic and covering up for pedophile priests , looks like one huge cover up of this poor woman's murder.
Cheers Des

Re: To each his own.
Des, back in the 50's and 60's the Catholic church here in Oz ruled with an iron fist.
So many of the church goers were fearfull of the clergy and would be afraid to say anything even if they knew.

Re: To each his own.
34... Evan have had to revert back to a post to ask a question and you are the best qualified to answer. You know how for legal immigrants who seek entry into Australia there is an English examination for all, and I particular know of first hand of one Anglo Saxon going back many centuries, who failed this as his supposed knowledge of the language was inadequate.
How would it be if all those from other parts of Europe had to undergo the same language tests would many survive ? Take France as just one example, I learned schoolboy French 68 years ago and whilst in the past have managed to get by in the pubs in French speaking Canada with probably stimulating alcoholic beverages, doubt very much if could come anywhere near a pass mark as required for permanent residency as in Australia. I picked French as an example as everything in the language has a masculine or feminine gender, and speaking it is easier than writing it. Would the average English person who went there to retire have the capabilitys of learning in their declining years. There will To my way of thinking be a lot of disappointed people if the EU brings in similar laws as Australia supposedly have. If an Englishman cannot pass an English test and it being the only language he can speak doesn't leave much room for others. Before anyone mentions anyone in particular Cappy can speak 2 languages, and they aren't good and bad. But English and Geordie. Sorry Evan picked out the wrong Lewis should have been the other one who lives in France. Shows how absent minded am getting. To try and erase would probably fail. So hope Lewis picks up the thread. Sorry once again. Cheers JWS

Re: To each his own.
John, you are correct but consider tgis. If you were to go and Live in China, Or Russia you would be required to learn the language or be in deep trouble. In a similar manner you would have to live by their laws not the ones you may wish to bring with you.
We had a situation some years ago when I was in the Uni, a group of students from Chile were her for one semester on a science course. They were not allowed into some of the labs as their understanding of English was so limited they could not understand all the warning notices.

Re: To each his own.
The Dutch passed a law last year that any immigrant from outside the EU who has not learned conversational Dutch and elementary written Dutch within a year will be deported, if one EU country can apply that rule why cannot all members

How do other countries do what the UK cannot. If we tried to deport people who cannot speak the basics, it would be considered against their human rights.
Maybe all human rights Cass should be funded by the defendant and not the state.
