I had a water meter fitted I forget how much it was to have fitted to your main in the street but free if you had it fitted in the house. As it was going behind the dish washer out of sight I had it installed inside. After the first years bill, taking it easy with hosing down etc there was not much difference between meter and fixed charge so we went back on fixed charge, use as much as you wish.My mate lived alone and would no bother going on a meter, two houses next door to each other in one a family of five the other a single person, both pay the same water rates if not on the meter, imagine the difference in water usage.

I forgot to say it's a smart meter so doesn't have to be read.

I keep being asked to donate £3 to build a well in Africa for water for a village, my own water bill could flood Africa.

Keith over the past decades Africa must have received millions of pounds from many charities and governments.i wonder does all the cash go to charities that install wells etc or to African governments, lets be honest there's a few dodgy ones.As you say with all the cash they receive the whole of the country should be flooded.Maybe someone can gives us an answer.

Without any major changes in use, I have saved over £100 year since the installation of a water meter.
Before, I was paying about £400 now about £250 per year.
    Regards
    Vic
