Re: Earthquake in New Zealand
#9, I feel exactly the same way Keith, I always said that NZ was the only place I'd leave England for and like you,
"too bloody old now", with what's going on here you couldn't blame any young family's for moving on. cheers JC

#9. Agree. For me it was a toss up.
NZ or Canada.
Happy with my choice, but often wonder 'what if'

#12, I suppose we're all spoilt for choice at sometime Den, the grass will always be greener on the other side of the fence,
I'll always wonder but in reality I know I'll never leave England, I love it too much, it's what's happening to it that I don't like.
cheers . JC

Den you would now be eating fush and chups wased down with a sex pack.
The town cut off is posing some problems as the powers that be attempt to get all the people away safely.
Some road damage will take up to a year to repair and I do hope they get those cows down some how.

Happy daze John in Oz.

# 10. I think all of us will be pleased to know that the two cows and the calf have been rescued from their precarious position, regards Peter in NZ.

Hi All.
Spent twelve months in Christchurch in 1960, to much movement; regular slight tremors or waves, my wife was terrified every time she went in the train tunnel to Lyttleton, went up to Auckland used to get tremors there as well, though that wasn't why we decided to come to Aus.
My brother lived in Christchurch after jumping ship in 47, later he built a bach [beach house]in Akaroa, he crossed the bar fifteen years ago, don't know if his family still have the place or after this it will still be standing. Beautiful country but underlying it is always the worry of a big quake.

Re: pl
News is filtering through to the public that the supposedly earthquake proof high rise buildings in Wellington erected after the last big shake are not so earthquake proof as first thought and that another look at the code is urgently required. Some 28 high rise buildings are now known to have strength beams that have totally failed and that is just the start. Regards Peter in NZ.

Re: Earthquake in New Zealand
Hi Peter.
What would those earthquake safe building have done if they had been where those cows were, it looked as it the earth opened up all around them and sank. I suppose the govt have to tell people that they are safe else they may have mass panic. I believe there are nearly one million Kiwi's living in Aus, I don't think they are all over here getting away from the quakes; but there will be quite a few who are no doubt, there again you may not have another quake for years. I hope not anyway.
Cheers Des

Re: Earthquake in New Zealand
Hi shipmate, minor earth quakes /tremors were very common in New zealand {war time} so I was told by my old shipmate Laurie this story he told me his future brother in law George Reed was in New zealand loading meat for the U.k. and was ashore for a few beers ? as you did back in them days, a small place {cant remember the name of sorry } a one horse town, one street a pub and a church with a shop? a police man in the street in uniform? he was on his way back to the ship The port phillip when a tremor hit ? and put him on the floor in the road , the policeman thought it was very funny, George thought it was the beer.
