News is filtering through to the public that the supposedly earthquake proof high rise buildings in Wellington erected after the last big shake are not so earthquake proof as first thought and that another look at the code is urgently required. Some 28 high rise buildings are now known to have strength beams that have totally failed and that is just the start. Regards Peter in NZ.
Hi Peter.
What would those earthquake safe building have done if they had been where those cows were, it looked as it the earth opened up all around them and sank. I suppose the govt have to tell people that they are safe else they may have mass panic. I believe there are nearly one million Kiwi's living in Aus, I don't think they are all over here getting away from the quakes; but there will be quite a few who are no doubt, there again you may not have another quake for years. I hope not anyway.

Hi shipmate, minor earth quakes /tremors were very common in New zealand {war time} so I was told by my old shipmate Laurie this story he told me his future brother in law George Reed was in New zealand loading meat for the U.k. and was ashore for a few beers ? as you did back in them days, a small place {cant remember the name of sorry } a one horse town, one street a pub and a church with a shop? a police man in the street in uniform? he was on his way back to the ship The port phillip when a tremor hit ? and put him on the floor in the road , the policeman thought it was very funny, George thought it was the beer.
