Re: Your opinions please.
one thing I was thinking yesterday in the old days the unions would refuse to handle any product that would put a British worker out of work from another country?? its just a thought. it may be port Talbot would still be going along with other big nationalised companies and I might add a lot of the junk we get from the eu would not have got of the drawing board as regards eu laws? just my view.. jp{hard hat ready}

Yes we do, the Furness ore fields in the area around Whitehaven and Workington was where one of the first commercial iron industry started off as not only was iron ore available but also coal.

Re: Your opinions please.
The whole world today is infatuated with the word money. Hundreds of years ago when there wasn't such, how did people survive without. Most countries were so called self supporting which used to be a claim by Scotland during my lifetime. When a country is self supporting that is she grows enough food and produce to feed herself then any surplus was then exported to other countries on an IOU for want of better terminology I suppose. Nowadays the only thing that the UK exports appears to be money, this money is taken from the citizens of the country via taxes so as to be able to export to the less fortuanate. All this supposedly revolves round a world bank which most of us haven't a clue about. The politicians deal with this bank borrowing money which at one time we never did. Most of us know the old bartering system still prevalent in most mid east countries, I'll give you this if you give me that, and worked for hundreds if not thousands of years. Early money consisted of being made from gold or silver worthwhile metal hence the saying worth his weight in gold. Nowadays is made from near worthless materials and can be produced at the drop of a hat. It is such a complex system involving banks which most of us know nothing about, I always try to keep clear of such as don't trust as feel am being exploited by such. These invisible people must be those who run the world or in other words those who hold the purse strings. All mysterious goings on to me. Cheers JS

Re: Your opinions please.
Hi All.
For a politician to fall on his sword he would make sure first that it was made from some very soft material. As for leaving the EU I recently heard on the news that Argentina has been granted an extension to her sea boundaries by the UN and that it covers the Falklands, if that is so Britain will have to stay in so that they can borrow an aircraft carrier and maybe a few ships from France.
Cheers Des

Re: Your opinions please.
John #16 ther barter system is still alive today but under a different name. Now we call it a free trade agreement, you buy my goods and I will buy yours. Very few countries now can survive without this system.

Happy daze John in Oz.

John,
The Indian PM came to London to have talks with Cameron who then increased Aid to India, the Indian then went to Moscow to see Putin and spent billions on Weapons of war made by the Russians with OUR Money.
Last week it was reported that we had Overspent our overseas Aid Budget by £140,000,000. All the staff in the Over Seas Aid Department received a Bonus of £16,000 each for having disposed of all our Aid budget.
We Borrow the money from the IMF and give it away to 185 countries as AID and then we have to pay it back to the IMF with INTEREST.
Now I did not have any education , due to WW2 , but even I can do enough sums to understand that That arrangement is not sustainable.
Brian, who wasted his life by not being a politician.
