And "You'll be Sorry!"
Pity though,As far as I.m concerned. That since last evening, this "Day ",being Hijacked , by the Media. non -stop. With the Announcement ,of The Australian of the Year, for 2016.Being the ,ex Head of the Army. With his Backer, The ,Most recent ,P.M. Standing near Him, with an encouraging, smile of Agreement. Followed then, By the Young V,C. (Afghanistan) winner, In a supporting Role. He being ,
The same Person. regarding the then , upcoming 100th anniversary. Who was used to the Hilt.Appearing at W.W.1 Battle fields. Showing the Australian Gravestones. And declaring , at one Site. " Quote: "And this is where ,Australia, won the First World War." ( a pause) continues ,as though an after- thought."With the help of the British" Awfully decent of him .I thought. Considering, Just some 12 years previous to !914 .The Residents, of this great Country. (Without the obvious exception of The Aborigine.) Were All British Citizens.
Couple this with A few Anzac ceremonies . This particular R.S.L, member, .apparently, a recent, ex R.A.N. Petty officer.
Declaring ,to the captive audience, ,How ,The Fleet mustered W.W. I and Came through the Heads, "Sydney or Melbourne) ? As a finale. He throws his Hands Up,towards the Sky. And Says .They're All up there .Looking down on You, right now.!"
Sorry Guys and Gals. .But these are the just a few examples, of the falsehoods ,whatever ,that are more consistently ,as time goes by,being presented . The once popular expression comes to Mind. " I'LL BELIEVE YOU" thousands wouldn't"
Just wondering ! What Republic Do they want ,Like the Philippines? Indonesia, Argentina, and similar . Where the Military ,appropriately dressed, appear to have control ,of the Media, etc. etc.
Two valid expressions . To those who want change? "Absolute Power Corrupts ,Absolutely " And "You'll be Sorry!"

Re And "You'll be Sorry!"
As regards the Republic I wonder who gave the heads of the Australian States permission to sign a document agreeing that a chosen Australian should represent. This is for the people to decide and not an elected public servant. The only one who didn't being the head gopher of WA who is a well known Republican, we are reaching the pits when some half baked ex politician is to succeed the Queen. Cheers JS

Re: And "You'll be Sorry!"
In 1986 durinmg the time of Hawke the rulkes changed the Monarch no whas no control at all. The Hiogh court of Australia now has the power to do all that the Monarch once did. If I was saked do I want a republic my reply would be NO,NO. Why, because until you can explain what kind of republic, how will this person be chosen, how long will term of office be, what powers will this person have, who will have the power to remove this person should they be in breach of their office?
Until those questions can be answered there is little point in asking do we want a republic. The public of today do not trust politicians so many will say NO!

Re: And "You'll be Sorry!"
Further to this Subject John. A couple of weeks ago. After , listening to a radio talk. By a Former ,High Court Judge.
The Presenter ,mentioned,if Anyone, would like to discuss ,with the Judge. ring xxx, whatever.
Not being ,the best in the world, re. Confidence, when ringing a Radio Station. Usually ,get Angry, blurt out my concerns, .Point made. ! Hang-Up.
There's me thinking"how will I get on ,With A High -Court Judge?" Never ever confronted ,any but the .Local Beak. And that with ,much trepidation. Anyway ,Station ,replies, "He will ,call you back ,in due course." Relief, Bit of breathing Space! Time to cool down . Possibly Hr. later. Phone rings, Introduces himself, Quite pleasantly. I responded accordingly, Thank You Judge! Just Call me David ,He responds. Put my case to him, much in the same vein, as my earlier Posting here. We went ,back and Fore, For at least Twenty mins. I was fully at ease ,by now.
Reminded him with his Names, Definitely ,Anglo Saxon ,etc. {He gives me a History of ,his forebears , arrival Oz. etc.) I asked him, "With his British background, ,how could he ,accept the falsehoods ,now being written in to Original Documented evidence, Given By Historians who were actually there ,at Gallipoli ,etc. ?
As these Present day Historians, Granted a Doctorate, are part of a organisation ,Set up by that well known Pommie Basher, Keating. And continues to this day.
He gentlemanly ,accepted my Questions. And gave some info ,including ,His visits to the U.K. .Including A Garden party, at Buckingham Palace. ,Gave me a bit of of detail, re. Australian pilots ,Battle Britain Etc. Spitfires ,and So on . Didn't get round to Saying, "Know what you're talking about ," as we were Bombed -out ,in Birmingham. In effect, . Re my original, Questions .He more or less ,submitted, that ."That's the sort things ,That happen these days." More or less, implying ,it's Par for Course!
It was a great exchange .Affording me the last word ,as it were. That being "We Agree to Disagree!". I wished Him ".Good Health," in Welsh , .He was Chuffed! So was I.

Re: And "You'll be Sorry!"
A judge is chosen for his ability to be a neutral observer in all cases. However looking round the world today every bit of trouble in Africa especially, is led by the occupying so called President. As John in Oz says, what sort of Republic would we finish up with. One for the boys, an elected one, a one who takes by force of arms, we and only a few countries left in the world have a nominal Head of State with no political power, but at least gives us that little bit of Heraldry that others don't have, has always worked and gives most of the people someone to look up to as being part of our past. Once this is gone it is gone for ever and think we will live to regret. The old saying if it works don't touch it well applies in this case. For those who want change for changes sake, a lot must suffer from an inferiority complex. There is no need to be the same as everyone else. We should be thankful of who and what we are. JS

Re: And "You'll be Sorry!"
HI John.
The odds of becoming a republic? From a betting man 60 40 against, still to many older people around who have a few brains left who are not on the Tablet and I don't mean the one from the Dr, who know who will be the chosen one, and it wont be Joe Blow who fought for his country or worked six days a week to keep his family, but some political figure who has a head the size of a large melon with a brain in it the size of a pea. A bit like our present Prime Minister really.
I am now waiting for the secret service to come and take me away.
Cheers des

Re: And "You'll be Sorry!"
The one major aspect of a republic thaty no one from the republican movement talks about is the constitution. As it stand there could not be a republic, the constitution would need to be rewritten in order for a new head of state to be installed. It is not as simple as changing the word Monarch to President, far more to it than that. The whole nine yards of what this person would be charged with doing, for how long, how to be elected etc must all be encapsulated in the constitution.

Re: And "You'll be Sorry!"
Can you think of any shonky business man, Banker, or Politician, being looked up to that you know would be acceptable to all. Think there is no one who has the standing of the Monarchy whatever one thinks about them. They have no axes to grind, no money to pilfer for personal gain, are accepted by the rest of the world and are there generation after generation. Other countries like North Korea and to a certain extent the USA try to emulate this by having a dynasty of family members seceding one after another. The Layman will never have the standing of the Monarchy. The only way I would vote for a Republic was if the UK was dominated by Europe and lost its self governing as well as its self respect. England as part of a Europe without its own self determination is no longer the UK to me in that case, and all bets are off. Cheers JS

Re: And "You'll be Sorry!"
There in lies the problem John, it is all about politics. If you recall when Hawke dumped, forgot his name, he had him installed as GG a couple of years later, jobs for the boys.
The Australian of the year is similar. Look at who we have had over the past few years, an Aboriginal footballer in the hope of reconciliation. Then the lady who had her son killed by the husband, on the band wagon for domestic violence. Now an ex soldier who wants a republic and more females in the army. All political ideals that may or may not work. What would be wrong with someone from the real world, ambulance driver, fireman etc being Australian of the year? One of our local radio hosts here in Melbourne said it is time to do away with this award as it achieves nothing, is purely political and serves no real purpose. He was flooded with callers who agreed.
