Floods
Todays Floods in Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cumbria,
I said a while ago that when the small sea ports closed down to shipping and the dredging stopped the rivers would silt up an d sand bars develop across the mouths of the rivers so the water backs up and floods inland.
I discovered yesterday that the European Union in Brussels had BANNED Dredging in all the rivers to preserve the sea and river beds,
What kind of Mental cases do we have in Brussels? and what kind of Mental cases do we have in our Parliament to follow this directive?
Time to get out of that stupid Europe.
Brian

Re: Floods
Should never have been in Brian. Is an affront and insult to those who fought and died for the UKs freedom, and not to give away ad lib. to foreigners. Whoever came out that adverse nationalitys could live side by side in perfect harmony wants their heads looking at. What you have ahead of you is many years and decades and maybe centuries of conflict due entirely to the stupidity of a few who think they can do what they like, and which looks like they have done just that. As for your present leader have seen more sense in a fathom of 10 inch cable laid mooring rope. JS

Re: Floods
isn't all this just common sense if you have flood defences on one or two rivers where the hell does the water go INTO THE NEXT BLOODY RIVER??? the river bursts its banks and guess what happens the whole bloody lot floods the next towns water comes to?? a few object to dredging their quant little streams that run through their towns not caring that in the winter months torrents of water comes down through the same little streams but then all the brains have a cobra meeting and everything will be ok{my ar.e} they all could not organise a pissup in a brewery? they all should ask the people up here that cant live in their houses for a few months no work no money they are still here when all the others have gone back talking about it but doing .... all about it sort aid to our homes first before lining pockets of a few in far of lands?? jp

Re: Floods
Its a well known fact that the Environment Agency is more interested in saving Newts, Toads and Worms rather than dredge our rivers.
Only a muppet would put a pumping station at the confluence of two rivers with an in adequate protection around it. No doubt the Agency Boys and Girls will share big bonus come April.
Seems it will take six months to do computer study in order to determine what they should do next, bloody slow computer.
Employ decent engineers to tell them what to do next.

Vic

Re: Floods
vic this is the same crowed that want to build a high speed train set from south to north and across a few flood plains and some track underground costing £62.billion and you know anything the government price always is way off the real cost? we have the men and machinery in this country to build flood run offs right across this country but the brains and the tree huggers will not let it happen this is an on going thing every year people flooded out towns dying because of weather conditions ?? jp

Re: Floods
Just imagine if the Thames flooded the Houses of Parliament, chaos would reign (Worst than it is now.) The answer is staring them in the face, keep the rivers dredged and the sewers clean. I bet you they (The MPs and DERFA) wont.
John.

Re: Floods
Heard a guy on Radio 5 Live last night say dredging a river by a metre or two metres even would make no difference whatsoever. He said look at the volume of water such as in York do you think a metre or two off the river bottom would've made a difference.
